Comment: I just wonder when we are going to read that LA has left the building. Dupree wasn't alone in the Janet debacle. LA desperately wanted to work with Janet and Jermaine delivered her to Island. It's not the first big money deal that LA did that collasped. Whitney's father re-negotiated her deal with Reid (at Arista)before the drug use got the best of her. Arista never recouped and Reid got fired. He dodged this Janet mess at Island Def Jam but let's see whats cookin at Island Def Jam for 2009....Reid can't be feelin all that secure himself.

Comment: Morning! Teigh & Huey.............I don't know about that as far as LA Reid is concerned. Fact is Jermaine Dupri did nothing. While he worked on Mimi's album, she was already on the label when he got there so he didn't discover or sign her. Yes he gets credit for her comeback but that was 3-4 years ago. Question is... what has he done lately.......nothing! Oh wait.......he signed the kid on TAG records, uhhhhhh that fell flat. Also, those boys on BET....Brutha.......yea........um....unfortunately, they tanked, didn't even chart in the top 50 their first week. See that reality show thing........it's so played now. Yea people watch because it's a train wreck and we as American people LUV train wrecks but people see a album and a reality show as two different things now because they've been bamboozled before. Unfortunately I think the boys can sing BUT there was really no promotion beyond the show so........if you didn't watch the show......no offense but it's on BET and their programming is garbage, no one really watches....you won't know about them.

Comment: Oh.......now on to LA Reid. See Reid will be there because he's actually growing the label beyond "Hip-Hop". Early 2000's, Def Jam was strictly Hip Hop, they had Def Soul to release R&B albums but that label was not as successful as Def Jam. None the less, looking at Def Jam now, Rhihanna, Ne-Yo, Fall Out Boy are the stars........get it? LA Reid took the label and is diversifying the roster so that it's not just Hip-Hop. Rhihanna and Ne-Yo are just as much pop now as Britney Spears. There's nothing wrong with that but it is what it is. See LA's got vision beyond "a hot record". Yea we all take L's and sometimes big ones but the man's got talent and he delivers consistently. I personally think he's just getting started in terms of getting the label to the point where he wants it to be. If he gets canned, it's going to be because he hasn't been able to figure out how to make the label successful and profitable despite all of the changes in the music industry, NOT because of a lack of talent or competence on his part or his label's roster or the lack thereof.

Comment: A lot of these Black executives are being let go because they're not producing much in terms of positive artists. Then there was that one who replaced Jay Z who killed himself. There are too many artists who are using the N-word -- even Janet slipped one in on one of her songs. Dupri, no doubt, an influencer to that. Of course, the label owners are mostly Jews, so they don't care, but that N-word using, misogynistic tone is not making any money. Lil Wayne managed to sell a lot and get the Grammy nods (you know they always got to promote at least one Black fool just to keep the negative image out there) but that doesn't mean it was a good or worthy album.

Comment: TRTR..uhmm...every artist alive could stop using nig ger today and the labels two years from now will prolly still be doing bad. From most accounts, the labels are interested in making money..whether it comes from positive or negativity..black executive or white. Sex, violence, drama and drugs sell across the board in our culture. Why? Because it keeps people paid. Start a petition on EUR to stop all negative articles on hip-hop arrests, professional athletes going rogue, who somebody having sex w/, celebrity sex books etc. and see how far u get w/that. People like it...they just do.

Comment: Giantsfan you're right, none are doing well mainly because they haven't figured out a new business model that works. Majors are beholden to the "machine" and have way too much overhead to just switch midstream. It's a process and if they want the music biz to survive the change they have no choice but to figure it out. Again, it's a process and hopefully someone will figure it out. As far as all the negativity present in today's music............well consumers have to start supporting positive music which means legally supporting the art form of music, it's not all the label owners - folks are still buying the negativity. People if you haven't noticed.....the labels no longer have the power, consumers do! The label doesn't say what's hot, consumers do! They decide who, what, when, where, and why!!! See the guage of success for labels is simple........numbers. You buy it, that means it's hot so bcause you (consumer) demands it, we (label) have to supply it. Start buying/demanding something else :-)

Comment: The Music Business has changed and I don't know if it is for the good. If your 1st CD doesn't come out slamming....gone! If you are an established (with many hits) Artist and you release a dud...gone! Marvin Gaye had gotten sloppy with several CD's but went into exile and came out with "Sexual Healing" and all was forgiven. Thank God Marvin came up when he did....On the positive side artists want more of their share for the work they created. Too bad digital downloading is making artist look at other avenues to make money. The trouble is most of them don't know how to put on a live show that sells out....Jermaine Dupri is one of the most successful producers but now it is what have you done for me lately. And yes J.D. helped to get Mariah back on solid ground.

Comment: Hey Soulmusic...........it's important to note, you described J.D. as a successful producer.......that he is! Executive........and the question still remains, "what have you done for me lately?" There in lies the difference between Jay-Z and J.D. and LA Reid. Reid - an executive who discovers, signs, and "develops" artist, grows/diversifies the label, etc. Jay-Z and J.D. have done extremly well for themselves and have collabed or "produced" good joints for others and not for nothing, signed some good/decent acts but those same acts only blossomed and or got bigger/better under LA Reid's tutelage/watch care.....prime example Rhihanna....didn't really blow until S.O.S and LA Reid's responsible for her recording that single and the more pop driven songs and image. Just my humble opinion :-)

Comment: I have not purchased a CD from a store in years. Almost all of my music is from digital downloads or from previous CDs that I converted. Many artists today just fail to understand the industry. MySpace, Youtube and Itunes has done a lot to change the way music is distributed. Also someone earlier posted the lack of live shows. I would not pay to see any of these current artists perform.

Comment: LA Reid should get sum flak for Janet & Mariah's album being so weak. I only liek two songs off both albums. First of all, why would you name your album E=MC2 when it obvious it's nothing like the first Emancipation. LA Reid needs to push real singers material. THese records heads need to push more of the Urban AC on too the mainstream hip hop radio stations. Rap has taken over too much, It's time to go back to singing being on mainstream waves.

Comment: Re: Brutha... their shyt tanked like a "heavy turd" in the toilet. It needs no flushing what so ever! It goes down by itself. The Reality show promotion before an album/single release kills the artist because we know too much about their personal lives. People past judgement or don't watch comes it's not appealing or they see how you really look and like DAMN ur ugly. I'm not surprised by the Bruthas horrible debut.... single peak so far #80, album #15 on R&B.... I didn't even know they had a single out! I stop watchign the show after the first episode cause it was annoying. Telling about their relationship with their father and the fighting is unnecessary. Just gives us the music. There is one song I do like off the album, "Like This". Nothing else.

Comment: Jermaine is the son of Michael Mauldin...Mauldin is a true industry legend (very well respected)and the person who took Anthony Hamilton to Jermaine. LA is getting far too much credit, if he was really all that, then why did Face break off the partnership. Cause LA didn't do right! As we see with the economy things need to fall apart before they can come back together!
