Comment: Okay....but wasn't Motown founded in 1958? Shouldn't they have celebrated their 50th birthday LAST year???? (Kinda late.....)

Comment: I checked out the latest Motown 'promotion' which is a 10 CD set, shaped like the Hitsville Museum in Detroit. The price tag was close to almost 2 hundred dollars for the SAME damn songs that they have been releasing, re-releasing, re-re-releasing for the past 30 years. The only catch is that there is a booklet with 'rare' photos (probably photos we've already seen before if you're an avid Motown collector). The sad part to this whole year long 50th Anniversary tribute is that half of the original roster of artists are either dead or worst, totally ignored by the sponsors of these events. Of course, except Smokey, Stevie, Diana and Marvin, the usual suspects that are used during these promotions. It's too bad the label itself did not last for 50 years. All they can do is live off the past.

Comment: NYCSoul>>>hard to believe Berry Gordy got swindled on the original deal to sell Motown. But you are right, this music has been repackaged, redone and it is the same. Maybe they could find some footage and give us a new documentary.

Comment: oldschoolbrother> Did BG say he was swindled out of his deal to sell Motown? I know he made a boatload of money selling off the Motown catalogue, which I think, was close to billion dollars. He still does, if I'm not mistaken, exercise control over who gets to use the catalogue. Matter of fact, his Esther has a say in it, too. I've heard over the years that BG has personal rare footage of Motown acts performing Roostertail in Detroit as well as footage of those famous Motown picnics. Don't know how true it is though.

Comment: NYC/AND SOUL>yeah i'm with you on this too. i wouldn't buy that big collection cause you allready have those in your collection. i have the complete collection of the Temps, Four Tops, Martha and the Vandellas, the Marvelettes, Mary Wells, Smokey and the Miracles, and Marvin Gaye, now i would love to get my hands on Steve Wonder. to be honest, the Supremes wasn't my favorite motown girl group.

Comment: VeeCee, this is one of many sources that gives the founding year of Motown as 1959. http://encarta.msn.com/encyclopedia_761579508/motown_r ecord_company_l_p_.html
