Comment: There are plenty of stories regarding Churches doing great things for their communities, but you don't hear of those. You just hear of these stories every once and while. DCGG> Is there something wrong with you? I'm seriouse, you seem to be really... scary.

Any spirit that is obviously anti-God, is pure Satan: Negative, ready for a fightm foul-mouth and ready at a moment's notice to speak AGAINST the church, Christanity and God. The Bible encourages people to give money to the church. How else is a church supported than by its parishoners. God never promised to open the sky and rain down millions, but he encourages those who have faith in Him to support the church in exchange for God's love and blessing upon us. Every now and then a minister goes wrong, but it is every now and then. But that's between God and the minister. Just like our giving is to God's work. Any church needs financial report and anyone who has visited or saw a church would know, a church has a large water bill (numerous toilets, sinks, drinking fountains, baptismal pool and outside water spout) Large lighting bill. Large heating and cooling bill. In the Bible God requires the minister and muscians to have a salary. There are also office staff. As well as the seats that many parts allow their unruly children to disrespect and tear apart repeatedly. Not to mention they feed their parishioners occassionally, feed people after funerals, feed the hungry. Black folk never get mad at rappers who rap telling kids to shoot each other. They get mad at church folk and if it weren't for church folk praying to God, we'd probably still be slaves.

Comment: the "church" is not the building, the "church" is the gathered people . . . . I am always mystified by the idea that the pastor has a financial right to be be compensated at levels that greatly exceed the median or average income of the congregation and that church buildings have to be grand structures that require massive upkeep

Comment: HarrisThomas, being a pastor is not just a 9-5 job like most parishers. It's not just a preach-on-Sunday-morning job as most would think. Many pastor take calls and handle church business around the clock 24/7. There's countless amount of counseling people with serious issues, wedding, funeral, making sure needs of the hungry, poor, elderly, hospital and home visits for sick and shut in, making sure the church staff is paid and on time, regardless of what is given in offerings (and you know most folks don't give), making sure church's water bill, phone bill, heating bill, cooling bill, light bill and landscaping is taken car of, making sure the church and its bus(es)is/are maintained inside and out. This is only part of it. Most people think minister's like are all peaches and cream, but it's a job that most people would not want no matter how much they are paid. People assume they make too much, yet the job they do is endless and often thankless. With regards the building. God deserves the best building a congregation can afford. Why should God who does everything for us, deserve a shack. Most Pastor build big, because they outgrow because lots of people are being saved. Neither Lakers, the Knick or the Bulls play ball in a shack. Why should the house of God be a shack, if the membership can and are willing to build. Read in the Bible where Solomon made sure he built God the most exstavagant temple ever, simply because he loved and respected God and understood God's worth. It's really scary where Black people have ended up. More and more we are putting down on God and the things that belong to Him and just look at where it's gotten us lately. Statistics put Black at the top of everything deadly and bad and our kids are killing each other like crazy. Because we have forgotten our first love. Jesus.
