Comment: just wondering O-man, is steppin' up then reversing gonna be your administration's pattern? . . . . . Blago = wickedly brilliant [why hasn't someone punched him in his throat?] . . . . . Burris = beneficiary of Blago's wicked brilliance; planning to try to get elected to the post, giving the repugs a reason to happy dance all over your political body? or will you be so good in the post that they don't dare?]

Comment: I'm glad they did the right thing according to procedure because this was just taking focus off whats really important and highlighting that the Dems still haven't learned. We have to get past in party fighting and work towards bi partisanship since we all say we want the same thing. Regarding blago - if they have the evidence to get him the full investigation should go on in the background. At least until Obama settles into office.

Comment: HarrisThomas I believe that sometimes when we see ourselves going in the wrong direction, we've got to put that gear in reverse and correct ourselves and that's not a bad thing, it's a smart thing. What was a good fight yesterday, apparently was not a good fight today. I would rather have folk in office who make the necessary adjustments than those who keep on down the path of foolishness because they don't want to look like they changed their minds/weak. Besides, WHICH ADMINISTRATION HAS GOTTEN IT ALL RIGHT?

Comment: Howboutthat..lol All of that bluster and bluff w/no show. I am happy to see Senator Burris handle himself w/the dignity and class the office requires EVEN THOUGH he was being ridiculed and insulted right in his face..he still held it down.

Comment: Well, he kissed enough azz to get the Senate seat and he probably told them behind closed doors, he won't run for re-election in 2010!

Comment: The Dems backing down after a bunch of tough talk is the modus operandi of the Democratic Party. People and organizations always back down when they fight the wrong fights. Here is Harry Reid and company who have sat silent for the last 8 years while the Texan and his goon have literally raped the country of its treasure, respect, and future... These lousy do-nothing Dems did nothing. Didn't put up nary a whisper of a fight... and now THIS is what they practically wage WWIII about? Adding another Democratic senator to the ranks? All of this being played out less than a week before an in party President will be inaugurated into office. The lack of foresight and planning and media relations on this suggests that things change and yet they stay the same. That Burris will be soon seated was predictable. He had the law clearly on his side from jump, regardless of what any of us think about him personally, professionally, or about the alleged "taint." But the drama that has played out for the past three or four weeks about this one appointment speaks volumes about the Democratic party ineptitude. Congrats Burris. Dems you suck.

Comment: They suck big time..including Obama who, w/all of his talk of being a constitutional lawyer, failed to see the end results of this before he spoke so in support of Reid. It's sad and I wonder who's advising him now. Two weeks of this over nothing...

Comment: "Dems you suck." Concur 100%

Comment: It's a wonder that I voted for anyone with a "D" beside their name on the ballots. I rue the day that I voted for a Democrat. The ball's in their court to "prove" to me that they deserve another damn vote for me. If the Dems can't get anything done with control (and pretty decent control at that) of both houses of Congress along with a Democrat as President then they don't deserve nuthiin'. As far as I'm concerned they got their votes in '06 and more in '08. As of next week this time "W" will no longer be President. They have no scapegoat. His people will not be running the executive branch, except for those leftovers like Gates that Obama 'chose' to keep. There will be ZERO excuse for action. If the Dems don't get it done, they deserve forever to be the whining MINORity party whose only goal is to complain that the other side is bullying them.

Comment: EXMUN, I don't understand why dems don't value working out deals in private so that they can present a unified face to the public . . . . . adding insult to injury, there's a sizable group of so-called blue dog dems who tend to side with the republicans: what's that about? why don't they just declare themselves to be repugs?

Name: Exmun
Comment: HarrisThomas, I totally agree. Before all of this controversy I couldn't give a rat's behind who they put in the seat. Personally, I'd always thought that 3J would have been a good fit, notwithstanding his dad's legacy (some love Jesse, some hate him). But beyond that, it didn't really matter to me. But it's obscene for a party to be conducting family business in the media. They are fools who shouldn't be running things. They sqaundered three weeks of potentially positive media coverage doing this BS when they could have done all of this behind closed doors.... and certainly once Blago called the bluff... just accept it as "legal" even if you disagree with it as "tainted." These Dem leadership folks couldn't find heat in Hawaii.

Comment: Dems suck, but so do self-loathing, bitter, pompous, self-righteous, hateful Republican (like Ann Coulter) whose policies have put this country on a fast track to he.l.l. Are you all forgetting what Republicans have done to this country? Blago was wrong, defiant and legal. Slavery was legal, too, once upon a time in this country! Blago should have deferred to party leadership because he knows dam.n well he was caught. He may not have done anything illegal, but HE WAS WRONG FOR TRYING TO SELL THE SEAT! But instead of doing the right thing, being a responsible leader, he decided to stick it to his party. Put them in a bag and shake them up, pull one out, but out of loyalty, I will stick to the party that more represents the values I stand for. Dems suck? No Blago sucks!

Comment: What is troubling to me is the lack of support for the President Elect from the very people that elected him. We voted for the man in overwhelming numbers and he's not even in office yet, yet so many of you are second-guessing him, criticizing him, etc., jumping ship, second-guessing yourselves as to whether or not you did the right thing by voting for him. Do you all remember, his opponent was Republican and his name was John McCain and THAT'S why you voted for him. Who said that just because he was the first black man to be president that he has all the answers? I believe he deserves is loyalty if he is going to be able to meet the challenges ahead. Unity? Are you a black person tearing into the first black man ever elected to the presidency and y'all talking about party unity? How can we demand/ask that the Dems be unified, if we as blacks can't even support the first black man to be elected President of the United States? Why do you expect so much from the Dems, when as blacks, you aren't even united behind your candidate? Personally, I will take a wait and see approach to the Obama administration. I elected him. I trust him and I believe in him and mhy Democratic Party. That and $1.75 is getting me on Marta, but I felt I had to say that. Republicans are watching the Dems, but the whole world is watching Black America and how we treat our Black president.

Comment: I'm sorry about the mess, too, but that is how a democracy works, unfortunately the Dems don't play the "game" very well. But let's not throw out the baby with the bath water. Furthermore, what do you think McCain-Palin would have brought to the party had they succeeded instead of the Democrats? That's the big picture here: 2 wars, the deficit, the economy, the re market, the banks . . .
