Comment: Michelle Obama is movin' and groovin' in ways no other First Lady has. I love that she is all over this city and involving herself in various forms of education. I love her willingness to bring different groups together. A little exposure goes a long way in a teenager's life! Big Ups to the real First Lady!

Comment: I admire greatly what Michelle is dong for the country's kids. Introducing kids to music other than HipHop is revolutionary. Some of these kids have probably never heard jazz before in their lives.
Yesterday, I was very upset about the media constantly covering the affront to Sarah Palin's daughter and not the affront to the nation's First Lady. But this has totally taken my mind off of that as I bask in the experience that is Michelle Obama. Single handedly, Michelle has taken Black Womanhood from Queens, New York to meetings with the Queen. She's taken Black Womanhood from ghetto fabulosity to couture. I am very proud of her.

Comment: What Michelle is doing, has done since she's been First Lady makes Laura Bush look like she was never there so I know I don't expect equal media coverage nor do I expect them to report this - the gorilla comment will get more play.
Its obvious that they are jealous and its also obvious that they don't intend to fluff her like they did bushit's wife who went to an hispanic school and I thought the media would never stop talking about it.

Comment: McNasty- Your comment about Laura Bush is so on point. I meant to ask if you'd read Diane Carole's THE LEGS ARE THE LAST TO GO? I suggest you do. It is so good I finished it in about six hours. The drama between she and Sidney Poitier is ridiculous and a page turner. Some man was beating her azz as she was filming JULIA. She and her daughter were "estranged." Now I am on Ella Fitzgerald. I will tell you about that one when I finish. I spend every summer reading biography's and autobiography's about Black Women.
I spent the entire weekend with Sisters and some ice-cream (it is hot as hell in Texas). First I caught MJB and Kathy on TVOne. Mary is much more intellectual and spiritual and deep than people realize. Next I went to Minnie Ripperton and cried a river. Talk about tragedy! She seemed like a marvelous person. And then I went to Melba Mooore. Her story should be made into a movie. Her pipes are still stellar and she has a sense of humor about her life which makes her wise. Did ya'll catch any of them?

Comment: Kudos to Michelle for bringing jazz -- soon to follow country and classical music to the White House exposing children to various genres of music. I luv Michelle Obama. She is a class act and to me is just as much a transformational figure as her husband because she has wonderfully elevated the image of black women worldwide. She has set the bar so high that she'll be a hard act for any future FLOTUS to follow.

Comment: Harriet...thanks for your review of DC's biography. I was on imdb.com just yesterday reading about Diahann and Billie Dee Williams. I read over 200 books a year, but I don't read a lot of bios. I go to Barnes & Nobles at least twice a week, so I'll definitely pick it up because she seems like she has led an interesting life. I've seen the Minnie Riperton Unsung segment at least four times...very sad. Loved Melba's Unsung segment...I'm pulling for old girl to rise like a Phoenix once again...her ex-husband was a snake. Saw the MJB on One-on-One. Mary has definitely grown and her maturity and spirituality was evident during the interview. I'm glad sistagirl had her 'Breakthrough', but I can't front -- I like her older materlal better. Can't wait for the Shalamar Unsung segment -- Jodi Watley was my girl. I loved her sense of style.

Comment: MzTee- You will love this one. You should check out some bios sister. They are my favorite genre of reading because I like to know about those who have gone before me. And once you find out what other Black Women have dealt with and for how long, you will be empowered. I can't wait for Shalamar! "Make that move, right now baby!" Wasn't that them? I anxiously await Florence Ballard as well. I only hope that they are able to tell Flo's story without Diana bashing.

Comment: Harriet, I lost a great deal of respect for Sidney Poitier once I learned of his treatment of DC and how he rolled straight on to his current wife. I never saw the him the same and it proves just how these men are when it comes to whites. It's deep. I'd love to know what type of relationship he has with Black children from first marriage. Notice how Poitier's wife stays in the background? I have little love for him and Quincy Jones.
