Comment: JCP: Forget the good stuff, let's talk about the other stuff. I'm sure until yesterday you would have held up SC governor Mark Sanford as a good example of a Republican family man with good values who is a loving father and husband. Why is it that most of the politicians caught in situations like this seem to rep the GOP?

Comment: Awww, shucks! Another in a series of moral clarity/family values editorials from Mr. Phillips while the latest conservative Republican pervert bites the dust. Mr. Phillips, you coulda written a timely article about Sanford but chose not to for this week. Why? This cute story about your son and your treasured cup is not distracting us one bit. If you have perversion in your moral clarity/family values closet, expose it on your terms. Sanford didn't tell us about his affair due to his own timing, his hand was forced. He was going to be outted before last weekend's trip south of the border. Tell me, Mr. Phillips, it will be a secret between you, me and everybody who reads your editorials. Plus, you'll feel better afterwards.

Comment: Hey, EUR readers/posters! Is "hiking the Appalachian Trail" going to be a euphemism for having extramarital sex? Some of the jokes about Sanford's stimulated package are really funny.

Comment: >JAXXIE: Yeah, try THAT married to a sista - "Where you going?" "I'm going hiking, I'll be back in about a week."

Comment: You sound like a great dad, and that is to be commended. But I'm going to jump on the bandwagon of the other posters and point out how "curious" it is that you seem inclined to use news stories only when they further your political aim, instead of using ALL of them to further your moral one. Your Repubs have given you AMPLE ammunition to spill one of your moral tirades, yet you mysteriously choose not to. Both Ensign last week and Sanford yesterday are case-and-point of the "breakdown of family values and morality in America" (your favorite soapbox subject, lol). Yet, you don't mention them. Why is that? How do you and your Republican ilk have the uncanny ability to see past your values when it involves one of your own? That's bizarre to me, it really is. Whatever you think of progressives, they READILY call out their own when things don't line up. That's just a fact. Right is right, JPhillips, regardless of party affiliation. I hope that's another nugget you pazz onto your "number one" and "number two" sons...

Comment: Great Article Mr. Phillips. I think we need to cut Mr. Phillips some slack. Not that I agree with his political views, but I feel that this article is something totally isolated from his political views. Me, personally, experiencing some of the issues discussed in this article (the absence of my father)found it to be good reading, especially to know that there are some good black men who are even better fathers to their children. Again, hats off to you Mr. Phillips. While I sometimes do not agree with your point of views, I applaud you for being a great father and living up to your responsibilities. Your children are blessed and I pray that they will return the favor as your children.

Comment: >SmoothP: In and of itself it's a good article, but those of us who read EUR on a regular basis and post know Mr. Phillips' MO. Had this been a prominent Black and/or Democrat politician gone 'hiking in the Appalachians', rest assured that the glass mug column would have been pushed back a week and JCP would have been all over this with both feet.

Name: JAXXIE
Comment: SmoothP, Mr. Phillips' articles about his family illustrate his moral clarity and family values conservative positions. I don't believe he's telling the truth about his family: it's all fiction to push his ideology and his politics.

Comment: TGen, I usually don't agree with many of your posts, however, I must say you really are spot on with this one. I have demonized JCP a number of times on this board, but I am beginning to realize that this man sees his tiny little world through tunnelvision. He truly is the "Uncle Ruckus" of this board because no matter how much the 'pugs' wrongdoings are reported ALL over the world, JCP still turns a blind eye because in his eyes racists yt 'pubs can do no wrong, and this week he does a "puff" piece like this. JCP is both disgraceful and pitiful because right is right and wrong is wrong, no matter what your party affiliation may be!
