Comment: I'm sure MJJ would thank you for your journalists eulogy of him - I know I do.

Comment: I liked this tribute, maybe one of the best, most honest I've read. Kudos. I will say though that though I would never presume to look in a man's heart and think I know what he feels, Joe Jackson does come off as a strange fellow, cold and distant, given that he just lost a son. There is no manual on how one should act in bereavement, but if there was, I have a feeling, attending an awards show with a big grin on your face, promoting a new record label, and laughing as your earring dangles in the wind, wouldn't be in that maunal, lol. But I agree with your point that if people believed back in the day that he was abusing his sons for fame and money, they are somewhat complicit by watching and supporting them, same thing they say about people watching that train wreck "Jon & Kate plus 8" in which the parents would allow their family to break up just for fame and money. *sigh* In both cases, more is revealed about our culture and how sick and twisted it is sometimes, than is revealed about the [willing] "victims" in the spotlight. But that's another story for another day. Today I applaud your tribute and co-sign most of it.

Comment: DJ, my sentiments exactly. I don't question Joe's actions. I wouldn't expect anything different from him. From what I know about Joe he is being true whether anyone likes it or not. That's what I prefer from an individual, to be true to themselves.

Comment: Another good piece. TGen, I agree, it always amazes me that we the public loves to watch train wreaks, but fail to grasp that we are also part of the problem

Comment: DJ I am trying to stop reading articles about MJ because there is just too much foolishness. I'm glad that I read this. Thank you this is an excellent article . I am so tired of people talking about the Jackson family as if they actually know them. And they need to leave Joe Jackson alone. Joe Jackson made MJ a star and he made it possible for members of the Jackson family (and many others) to live a life that many people can only dream of. If Joe Jackson "destroyed" MJ then he did it with the support of many people including his mother.

Comment: "but why don’t they care when other humans die closely WITHIN each other?...." Darryl you hit it with that one. Folks die long before their bodies give out...and as for Joe; let's put Joe in perspective. He is more than likely what is often referred to as "first generation Northerner"...or first generation FREE. When you go back past your grandmother's generation "they beat their family because they were beat" it's what they knew. They were either slaves or sharecroppers....either way socially, economically, emotionally abused! Joe did and continues to do what he knew....yet isn't insanity doing the same thing and expecting something different? Great piece Darryl...I hope your essay gets picked up for national print.

Comment: I am quickly beginning to think the man that writes the "Bridge" columns is a genius. Or at the very least, the last person in this country that truly has any common sense left. Of all the columns I've read about MJ this is the only one that neither fawns over him nor uses every syllable to condemn him. MJ wasn’t a saint, he didn’t cure any diseases, he didn’t “free a lot of people”…he was an entertainer. PERIOD. Nor was he the devil incarnate who tortured children for his own entertainment…he had issues that were probably not too much greater than those of certain family members that we could all name if we took time to. Of all the columns I’ve read since MJ’s death, THIS one was the only one I honestly liked.

Comment: And as a last thought, this member of the public wants for the Jackson family what I do want for my family: the right to grieve a beloved without judgement and close scrutiny. I have that. It's too bad that the Jackson family can't have it.
