Comment: Hey Mr. Superintendent, why not bite the bullet. pay the overtime and make the snow day up on a Saturday instead of making people work on a NATIONAL holiday. If not that, why didn't you choose President's Day?????

Comment: Screw the school system, just refuse to show up that day for school. MLKjr. Day is a national holiday that should be celebrated by all and the correct measures should be taken so that it can be! That superintendent should be taken to task for such an obvious and stupid spun remark.

A Former Superintendent
Comment: As a former resident of Chesterfield and a former employee of the Chesterfield school system, I understand how the decision to attend school on the King Holiday might have been made based on school employee and parent input when developing the school calendar. I admire Dr.Cannaday for taking the heat on this one, but I think he is trying to carry out the wishes of the majority that he serves. I advice to him would be "back off Billy." It's okay to be backed down by the minority in this case. Choose your battles carefully; this one does not merit the risk of sacrificing your excellent and successful leadership of the schools. We need you to survive to do more good.

Comment: I think that Billy Cannaday should stop focusing on the children's education and start focusing on their saftey. When the roads are really icey you need to cancel school. I also think adding time on to the children's school days next year is stupid because we already did that about 10 years ago so we don't need to do it again. And if there is a snow day we can just make it up on a half day or something we don't need to add time to the kid's school day.
