DENVER -- The 8th Wonder of the World, a leading entertainment company formed by Tantra and East West Entertainment, announced today that global superstar Kelly Rowland of platinum selling mega-group Destiny's Child will be co-hosting as well as performing at the international concert series' kickoff event in Agra, India using the Taj Mahal as a backdrop. Scheduled for April 12, 2006, the series will benefit numerous charities including YouthAIDS, Action India and UNICEF.
Rowland, a YouthAIDS Ambassador will be joined at the event by international music star Rahat Fateh Ali Khan; Faisal Kapadia and Bilal Maqsood from the Pakistani group Strings; and 13 year-old Music World Music rapper Lil J Xavier. The 8th Wonder of the World concert series is the world's largest awareness drive created by the entertainment industry to benefit children and youth affected by HIV/AIDS. The Taj Mahal event will be broadcast globally with an estimated audience of 1 billion viewers.
"We are both honored and delighted that Kelly Rowland has agreed to perform at the Taj Mahal event," said David DeCamillis, co-founder of 8th Wonder of the World. "Not only is she a world-class musician, she is a committed champion for young people around the world suffering the devastating effects of HIV/AIDS."
Outside of taking the time to lend her name to socially conscious causes, Kelly's current schedule revolves around the much-anticipated July 11th release of her self-titled, sophomore LP (Sony Urban/Columbia) as a solo artist. Preceded by the sultry kick-off single, "Still In Love With My X," fans of Destiny's Child and Kelly Rowland will be pleased to hear a more urban-edged, musically matured and vocally refreshed Rowland confidently stepping out of the multi-million selling, chart topping trio's musical legacy.
Following the Taj Mahal event, nine other concerts will take place over a period of five years at some of the most beautiful natural and man-made locations in the world. These include Beijing's Forbidden City, Cairo's Great Pyramid, the Parthenon in Greece and New York's Statue of Liberty.
"HIV/AIDS is a global problem that demands a global response and I look forward to participating in this most important event," said Kelly Rowland. "Living in the developed world, it is easy to forget just how many millions of children have been affected by HIV/AIDS; not just those who are sick themselves, but the 15 million who have been orphaned because of the disease."
The concerts, which will be backed by corporate sponsors, will feature renowned musical artists, Goodwill Ambassadors and will be broadcast globally.
