· Jamaican born toaster Busy Signal debuts on the Billboard R&B Hip Hop charts
Busy Signal debuts on the Billboard charts this week with his almost two year old reggae breakthrough hit Step Out. The song hops into the R&B Hip Hop Singles & Tracks tally at number 73. This is one rung lower higher than Sean Paul’s Give it Up to Me which debuted at number 74, just a week before.
Step Out which performed well on several overseas reggae charts, is the first single from Busy’s debut album of the same name. The album was originally scheduled for release last month (May).
In related news, Busy Signal is presently riding the Jamaican reggae charts with songs including Too Much Gun (produced by Michael ‘Liquid’ Brissett) and Agony (produced by Donovan Bennett).
· Mr. Vegas single featured on movie soundtrack
The soundtrack album to the movie Stick It, features the song Fire Fire by Mr. Vegas and the group Fanny Pac.
This isn’t the first time that a song from Mr. Vegas has been featured on the soundtrack album of a major motion picture. Vegas’ Here Comes the Boom was featured on the Belly movie soundtrack, while Hot Gal Today featuring Sean Paul was featured on the Blade movie soundtrack.
The movie Stick It stars Jeff Bridges. The soundtrack album which has been released by Hollywood Records, features songs from Missy Elliott, Talib Kweli, Blink 182 and Lisa Lavie.
And in related news, Mr. Vegas is set to shoot videos for the songs Dance with You featuring Machel Montano and Genie Wine.
* Wayne Marshall creating ripples with Astronaut, shoots new video this week
Singer Wayne Marshall has been creating ripples with his latest single Astronaut, which is featured on Leftside and Esco’s Dem Time Deh rhythm.
The rhythm itself has been making quite an impact over the past month, and is being touted as the dancehall rhythm for the summer.
Additionally, Marshall who is set to leave the island for England later this week as part of a contingent from Jampro to perform at an after match party as the England vs Jamaica football match, will step in front of the cameras for his new video Forgive Them Please.
· Baby Cham follows up Ghetto Story with Rude Bwoy Pledge
Damion ‘Baby Cham’ Beckett has been picking up some steam in the US thanks to the Billboard success of Ghetto Story. The song which topped the local and overseas reggae chart for consecutive weeks earlier this year is to be followed up by Rude Bwoy Pledge. The song comes as the release of Cham’s album Ghetto Story, draws nigh.
The album Ghetto Story will be the follow up to the deejay’s 2000 album Wow: The Story.
* Luciano to tour Europe….new album to be released in August
Luciano will embark on a seven week tour of Europe early next month. Outside of the tour, Luciano has spot dates in Guam, Hawaii, and Japan. He is also scheduled to perform at Reggae Sunsplash in August.
Luciano will release a new album, Break Out on VP Records in August. Later that month, he kicks off his US tour in support of the album.

Jamaicans are busy on the Billboard charts this week. Here’s a quick glance. On the Rap Singles chart, Baby Cham’s Ghetto Story falls from 23 to 22, while Sean Paul is new at 21 with Give it Up to Me. Over on the Billboard Hot 100, Give it up to Me is bubbling. Moving over to the R&B Hip Hop Singles & Tracks chart, Ghetto Story moves from 46 to 43, while Beenie Man’s Hmm Hmm produced by Tony Kelly glides from 56 to 46. Sean Paul’s Give it Up to Me moves from 74 to 50, while Busy Signal debuts at number 73 with Step Out. Interestingly, producer Donovan ‘Don Corleon’ Bennett is listed as producer. Over to Billboard’s Dance Music Club Play chart, Claudja Barry (former Boney M member and dance music singer from the 1970’s) moves up from 41 to 33 with I Will Stand. And finally, Third World member Bunny Rugs is credited as solo artiste on the song Now That We Found Love, which debuts at number 43. Incidentally, Rugs sang lead on Third World’s cover of the O’Jay’s original, which charted on Billboard’s R&B and disco charts in 1979.
