Suzan-Lori Parks

*Writers block is not something playwright Suzan-Lori Parks could afford to have when it came to penning her latest project.

In November 2002, the Pulitzer prize-winning talent challenged herself by writing a play a day for 365 consecutive days. Upon completion, she passed the baton to New York’s Public Theater, who will stage all 365 works from Nov, 13, 2006 to Nov. 12, 2007 under the title “365 Days/365 Plays.”

The Public will gather together a widely diverse cross-section of New York’s theatre companies to participate in the project. Over the course of one year, the selected theatres—curated by The Public, Suzan-Lori Parks and producer Bonnie Metzger—will perform these “brief, brilliant snapshots from the imagination of one of America's leading playwrights,” according to a statement.

This will be part of a yearlong national festival of the play cycle that will take place in major cities around the country including Atlanta, Los Angeles and Denver. Tickets at The Public will be free.

Meanwhile, the Public needs companies to produce these plays and is currently seeking applications from eligible theatre partners throughout the five New York boroughs. Candidates can be producing organizations, presenting organizations, theatre companies and independent artists with a track record for self-producing. Those selected will be responsible for producing one week (seven plays) in the cycle.

Applications must be submitted online by July 26, 2006. Applicants (accepted/ declined) will be notified via email by Sept. 15, 2006. For more information or to apply, please visit www.publictheater.org/365.
