Fantasia Barrino

Just like the headline says, this page/board is where you can discuss the stuff that we didn't cover in today's issue. (It's sort of like feedback with a twist) Remember, NO name calling, racial taunting, graphic sex talk and vulgarity in general, PLEASE.

The Root of Joe's Dilemma

_________________________________________________

Imagine standing in the middle of a superhighway.

Not a car in sight, not a soul around. Just you and the highway.

It turns out that this highway was your creation. From a small child until the present day you have been adding more and more concrete, more and more support to your highway ensuring nothing would break it down.

Back and forth you have driven on your highway without a snag.

After you tire of the same old pattern, you want to exit.

But there are no exits.

This is how you and everyone else in the world operates. We build habits, or highways, from early on and find it nearly impossible to exit after the ride becomes tiresome.

Joe was stuck on a highway he created, and he simply couldn't exit. The years and years of conditioning and routine were too strong to break. His highway was sturdy and stubborn, and exiting was out of the question.

In essence, Joe was trapped in a prison he created. And if you have ever struggled with personal change, the same it true of you. You cannot simply exit your habit. It is too powerful, too well built.

This principle leads us to the main message of today's newsletter: Don't beat yourself up over your inability to exit your habit! If you don't follow the keys of motivation, you have no other choice but to return to your old ways.

You cannot simply think your way to change. So if you've tried it and failed, stop tearing yourself down because of it. You were fighting a giant with a toothpick - a hopeless battle.

To create a change that sticks, you must use a different set of tools to make it happen.
