*Dem Franchize Boyz, Missy Elliott and Jermaine Dupri are among the artists and producers who appear on “The Making of Me,” a new album from R&B singer Monica that will arrive in stores on Sept. 19 via J Records.
The artist’s first disc since 2003’s “After the Storm” is said to delve into personal pain and heartache, including the suicide of an ex-boyfriend. The set is also tipped to include happier, more upbeat fare, including the first single “Everytime Tha Beat Drop.”
“‘Beat Drop,’ for me, is a real good representation of where I'm from," Monica said in a statement. "We all just want to dance and have fun. This is what I live. What I dance to. What I listen to when I'm in my car. So I thought, ‘Why wouldn't I sing over it?’”
The 25-year-old burst onto the scene as a teen and is best known for the hits "Angel of Mine," "Don't Take It Personal" and "The Boy Is Mine."
