      *Apparently, Mariah Carey and her team of lawyers believe that fans may confuse her with the X-rated Mary Carey, star of such films as "Double Air Bags 11" and "Boobsville Sorority Girls," not to mention a former candidate for California governor.

      Mariah’s legal crew was dispatched to deal with the porn star after she made moves recently to trademark her similar-sounding stage name. However, the adult actress, whose real name is Mary Cook, says she’s not backing down one bit.

      "I'm ready to battle Mariah over this because I've been Mary Carey for a long time," the XXX actress told Reuters. "It's kind of funny because I'm a porn star and I've been being myself for a long time. I think she's being silly."

       In October, a lawyer for Mariah Carey sent a letter to Mary Carey's reps threatening legal action if she (Mary) did not withdraw her trademark application.

      According to Reuters, the letter from Mimi’s attorney Robert Becker said Mary Carey and Mariah Carey share the identical surname and have first names that are very similar. And in part because the porn star was seeking the trademark for audio and video recordings, he said, "Confusion between your client and her ‘Mary Carey’ trademark and our client and its ‘Mariah Carey’ trademark is therefore likely."     

      Becker also demanded that Mary Carey use the name for "adult entertainment" purposes only, and that she not sing or perform music.
