*“Grey’s Anatomy” co-star Katherine Heigl, the most outspoken critic of Isaiah Washington’s recent gay-slur debacle, spoke to ABC’s “Good Morning America” Thursday about the actor’s return to the set following a week in residential treatment.
"We're all hopeful...It's a great group of people, and we work really well together,” Heigl told “GMA’s” Robin Roberts. “We work really hard, and it's unusual that we do get along as well as we do."
The actress – who famously said she would “throw down” for her co-star and best friend T.R. Knight after Washington referenced him with a gay slur twice – is applauding Washington’s effort to address his issues.
"If it were ignored or just brushed under the rug, I would be angrier about it," she said. "But he's trying very hard. We're all trying very hard."
Although Disney's corporate nondiscrimination policy could be considered grounds for Washington’s dismissal, ABC has yet to make an announcement on the actor’s fate with the hit series.
