*Apparently, Washington D.C.'s Hot 99.5 FM didn't understand who they were dealing with when they offered Bobby Brown a chance to get out of jail in exchange for seven days of work at the station.
Not only did Brown refuse to hold up his end of the deal once freed on Wednesday night, but he disrespected the DJ who spearheaded his release by hanging up on him during a live broadcast.
"If you have been listening to The Kane Show this morning on Hot 99.5, then you already know what's happening," the station said on its Web site. "Bobby Brown has backed out on his part of our deal to pay his back child support in return for appearing on The Kane Show for one week."
Brown was arrested in Massachusetts last Sunday for failing to appear in court and failure to pay over $19,000 in back child support and court fees. A judge ordered the singer behind bars for 10 to 30 days, or until he could come up with the money.
As his lawyers scrambled to come up with the cash, The Kane Show contacted Brown's camp with their offer to pay for his release in exchange for a week of appearances as a guest-host on the show.
On Friday, Brown called into the program, but hung up in host Kane's face 10 minutes later, after an argument over his child support drama and the nature of his employment arrangement at the station.
Kane began: "Can we talk for a second, because there are people listening to the show right now…that are saying, you know Bobby Brown has had a chance, he's had two chances, he's had three chances, he's had four chances..."
Brown interrupted asking, "For what?"
"To go ahead and fix some of the problems with paying child support," Kane answered.
"What do you mean fix some of the problems?" Brown said. "I'm a father and as far as nonpayment of child support, that's personal."
Later in the exchange, Kane reminded Brown that the station had paid to spring him from jail.
"I guess...did you? You paid. OK," he said, then added, "No, we don't [have] that cleared up yet."
After a few more minutes of arguing over his agreement to appear on the show, Brown gave Kane the dial tone. Listen to it HERE (depending on your connection, it may take a bit to start playing).
Update: Now Hot 99.5 FM is saying that it has rescinded its offer to pay for Brown's bail. From a legal point of view we're not sure if that means Brown will have to go back to jail or what. However, at EUR's deadline time there were no reports that he was back behind bars. For more on the sad saga visit the station's website.
