*The nation’s No. 1 Latin record store chain has removed Jennifer Lopez’s music from each of its 50 stores after claiming she refused to visit their outlet, or any other store servicing Spanish music only, during her recent promo tour for new Spanish language album, "Como Ama una Mujer" ("How a Woman Loves").
According to the New York Daily News, Ritmo Latino made the decision after learning that Lopez intended to only make appearances at Anglo stores, such as F.Y.E. in her home borough of the Bronx last Wednesday.
"This is a Spanish-language CD, and if she wants to discriminate against the Latin community, then we will not sell her product," Ritmo President David Massry told the Daily News.
Massry said J.Lo has not only “refused personally to promote her new CD in any of our stores," but won't appear at other outlets devoted only to Latin music.
"This is not the first time this has happened. Celebrities have this notion that when they reach a certain level of crossover appeal, they forget quickly where they started,” said Massry. “We will no longer tolerate these situations."
