Morris W. O'Kelly

      *Well THAT was pretty anticlimactic.

Mo’Kelly waited and didn’t “rush to judge.”  Now that Michael Vick is going to admit to what we all pretty much knew he did…Mo’Kelly can “officially” weigh in with his two cents.

Uh, so where exactly are all of you Michael Vick supporters/protesters now?  Mo’Kelly is looking for you and your misguided arguments but you seem to have run for cover.  Where are all those alleging that Michael Vick is a victim of “racism” now?

Racism doesn’t make you plead guilty on all charges…GUILT and overwhelming evidence against you do.

“Michael Vick…you are charged with conspiracy to commit the felonies of dogfighting and racketeering…how do you now plead?”

      “Guilty your honor.”
“But you said ‘not guilty’ last month…what changed?”
“I’m sorry your honor…what had happened was, I thought you and the feds said ‘frogfighting’ last time…and so I pleaded ‘not guilty’…'cause, uh, you see judge, I don’t have any frogs…and so…”
      “No Mr. Vick, I said ‘dogfighting…with a ‘d.’”
“Yes sir…well in that case, my ass is guilty.”

Now that Vick will plead guilty to federal dogfighting conspiracy charges next week, Mo’Kelly can rightfully and justifiably cast aspersion on the appropriate party.

      Michael Vick.

The federal government didn’t put up the money for Bad Newz Kennels, Mike did.  Don’t take Mo’Kelly’s word for it, take his.  HE is the one pleading guilty.

      Michael Vick.

There will be no more arguments to be made about giving Vick due process before convicting him in the court of public opinion.  Michael Vick will have done that all by himself with his own guilty plea.

Michael Vick will plead guilty and it will match with Mo’Kelly’s opinion that he is.  Nice how clean and tidy this is all turning out.

And no, Mo’Kelly isn’t about to listen to anyone of you who want to allege that he’s only pleading guilty because he wouldn’t have had a chance at a “fair” trial.  To use a football analogy, if there were an OJ Simpson 4th down Hail Mary chance in hell of eeking out a ‘not guilty’ verdict…Vick would’ve gone to trial.  So what does that tell you?

Michael Vick is guilty…in both plea and reality.  Let it go.  He financed the dogs, he killed the dogs, end of story.

      Next…

The man is guilty and the government had the receipts, eyewitnesses and other corroborating evidence waiting in the wings to prove it.  Accept it and move on.  There is nothing to debate.  In fact, this trial was never to be about innocence or guilt…it was about whether or not Vick could get himself off.  Huge difference.

Where are all the blind Michael Vick supporters now?  There’s no conspiracy theory to float, no out of control North Carolina district attorney with delusions of grandeur, no circus court trial to follow for months on end…just a guilty plea/acceptance of responsibility for bankrolling an illegal criminal operation.

Just how it should be.  Thank you and good night.

Don’t try to sugar coat it, don’t try to insert euphemisms.  It is what it is.  Michael Vick, your career is over…thanks for playing.  We have nice parting gifts for you…a yellow unisex jumpsuit with a matching pair of shiny silver bracelets.

Vick will likely be away from any type of professional football for a minimum of two seasons, assuming his prison sentence is 18 months or fewer and the NFL doesn’t suspend him subsequent to the prison sentence.

      That’s BEST case scenario.

Unlike basketball and baseball, sitting out for more than a year in football spells the end of your career, regardless of anyone’s supposed talent.

Ask Ricky Williams.  Ask Maurice Clarett.  Oh wait, you can’t ask Clarett…he’s in prison too.

But Vick’s football career is not important here in the grand scheme of things.  Mo’Kelly couldn’t care less if Vick never played another down.  Vick had the world and he gave it back.  That was his choice and that’s on him.

If you sign a $130 million contract in the NFL, funding an illegal enterprise that could lead to federal charges is probably a bad idea.  If you sign a $130 million contract in the NFL… employing convicted drug dealers as your “business partners” in “another” illegal enterprise is probably a bad idea.  See, convicted drug dealers are usually closely monitored by authorities after they get out of prison.  That’s why they call it probation and parole.

In fact, the home in question was raided for DRUGS and the authorities just HAPPENED to also find dogs/dogfighting paraphernalia.

      Oops.

No convicted drug homies…no drug raid.  No drug raid, no dogfighting charges.

Why wasn’t there anyone campaigning and protesting on the behalf of co-defendants Quanis Phillips and Purnell Peace?  Nobody was complaining about a “rush to judgment” against them.  Was it because their times in the 40 weren’t fast enough or their fantasy football value was nil?  That…and the fact we knew they were guilty.

Now that Vick is ready to own up and be held accountable, he should be treated accordingly.  Let’s just think of him as “Michael Phillips” or “Michael Peace.”

It’s insidious how celebrity has warped common sense.  Criminality is criminality.  Michael Vick deserved no more or no less consideration than his co-defendants.  Not then and certainly not now.  He will have to fight for the top bunk just like any other inmate.  He will have to worry about someone stealing his desserts just like any other inmate.  He will now have to trade cigarettes like they are twenty dollar bills…just like any other inmate.

      That’s what inmates do.

The guilty plea and subsequent sentencing of Michael Vick are not “tragic” in any way.  Unfortunate, yes…disappointing…yes…but tragic, hell no.

Simply because one of the biggest stars in the NFL short-circuited his career for the most foolish of reasons is not excuse enough to shed a tear or share our sympathy.  If anything, the fall of Michael Vick hopefully served notice to thousands of future African-American professional athletes.  The fall of Michael Vick saved others from similar fates in the future, you best believe.

Michael Vick knew what he was doing while he was doing it and was willful in the process.  He lied to Falcons owner Arthur Blank and most importantly, he lied to his fans.  Nobody’s sympathizing with Phillips or Peace…so why would we sympathize with Vick?  Because he can make defenders miss?  Because we paid $120 for one of his jerseys?

In fact, he’s more culpable given Vick bankrolled the operation as well as actively participated.

To those of you out there who can’t understand all the fuss over “dogs”…you’re still missing the point.  Laws and their supposed merit aren’t subject to debate after you break them.  You either observe them or break them and deal with the consequences.  Dogfighting, racketeering et al. are illegal…period.

That’s like arguing whether prostitution and marijuana use are “victimless” crimes after the police pick you up in the red light district getting a BJ from Divine Brown and/or find weed in your car.

You’re going to jail…period.  Save that other noise and nonsense for your local legislator and work to have the laws changed.  But in the meantime…

Michael Vick is going to jail…period.

He has nobody to blame but himself.  Not anybody who supposedly “snitched.”  Not the media, not the government, not racism…just Michael Vick and no one else.

Michael Vick is the perfect cautionary tale of when “keepin’ it real goes horribly wrong.”  Michael Vick is the perfect example of not knowing that it requires more than mere dollars to leave the ‘hood, you must also have enough sense to leave the ‘hood mentality behind too.

Congratulations Michael Vick, see you in 3-5.
