*Employees of the newly-formed Public Broadcasting Corp. of Jamaica, noticed something a little odd last week while touring the facility. An expansive collection of 1970s music, reflecting a substantial part of Jamaican musical history, had suddenly gone missing.
The missing collection includes original recordings by reggae greats Bob Marley and Peter Tosh, as well as video of Fidel Castro's historic 1977 visit and the 1978 "One Love Peace Concert," in which Marley famously called two bitter Jamaican political rivals onstage to join hands.
"The latest development is a national disgrace," said Gladstone Wilson, former program manager for JBC radio, to the Associated Press.
Workers who discovered the possible theft said they had planned to use the archived material for JBC's first programs, said Jamaica's information minister Olivia Grange. She called the disappearance of the material "a blow to the island's history," AP reported.
