*Dina LaPolt, one of the most renowned entertainment lawyers in America today, will be teaching a weekly class at Los Angeles' UCLA Extension beginning this January entitled Legal and Practical Aspects of Music Business.
Catering to be accessible for anyone involved in the music business - artists, managers, lawyers, record company executives, business managers, publishers, investors, producers or songwriters, this is the latest of LaPolt's in-demand classes that are essential for those involved in the industry in any fashion.
The course covers the contractual and business issues that are arise in today's music industry which include the new arrangements between record companies and music artists.
Also covered will be production deals, producer agreements and other legal and business issues that occur in the recording studio; issues relating to managers, entertainment lawyers, agents, and business managers; topics and agreements relating to music publishing rights and licensing music for film, television and video games; monetizing income in connection with mobile, downloads, and subscription services; and discussions pertaining to fans, brands, social networking and cultural communities as they affect music, copyrights, and merchandising in a global music market.
"In this ever evolving world of the new music industry, it is essential that we view the artist as a 'brand' if we are ever going to be able to monetize the behavior of a new generation that expects free content. We play in global market and understanding the way in which money can be generated in all aspects, musical and non-musical, is the key to the future of the music business," says LaPolt.
The twelve week class will also feature guest lecturers from all areas of the business that are considered specialists in their specific fields including international markets, digital rights and monetizing income, branding, and music placement in film and TV.

Having worked in several areas of the music industry - as a musician, booking agent, talent buyer, and manager - LaPolt serves as a rarity within the entertainment industry: one who has seen the business from all angles.
