Rev. Vernon C. King, the youngest son of Martin Luther King’s only brother, A.D. King Sr. died Saturday, May 2nd in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was 48 years old.
Rev. Vernon C. King, the youngest son of Martin Luther King’s only brother, A.D. King Sr. died Saturday, May 2nd in Greensboro, North Carolina. He was 48 years old.
Vernon King was ordained at Ebenezer Baptist Church and served as the senior pastor of several churches in Georgia and North Carolina. At the time of his death he was the Senior Pastor of St. James Baptist Church in Greensboro, North Carolina.
King received a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Religion from Morehouse University in 1983 and continued his education at Emory University’s Candler School of Religion where he studied Pastoral Care and Church Administration. He served as a Chaplain of Union Corrections and as a Chaplain of the Georgia Restoration Center. He also served as Pastoral Counselor for the Southside Psychology Clinic in East Point, Georgia. He also produced and hosted his own radio show, “Coping with Christ.”
He married Robin Scott King of Washington DC, and there are two daughters from this union, Victoria and Venus King.
