MEMORIAL SERVICES SET FOR MICHAEL JACKSON: Public viewing to take place at Neverland Ranch preceding private service for the family.
*The public will be able to say a last goodbye to Michael Jackson via a public viewing service to be held Thursday at his former home, Neverland Ranch, according to reports.
A private family memorial service for the family will follow on Sunday.
Jackson's body will be driven 130 miles from Los Angeles to the sprawling estate north of Santa Barbara late Thursday morning in a motorcade said to be at least 30 cars deep, according to CNN and TMZ.com, citing police officials.
E! News quoted a Santa Barbara Sheriff's department spokesman who said meetings were taking place with the California Highway Patrol to discuss security for the trip from the Jackson family home in Los Angeles to Neverland.
Jackson's birthplace of Gary, Indiana, also is planning a memorial service for the deceased singer on July 10, according to a spokeswoman for the city's mayor's office.
Lalosa Burns, spokeswoman for Gary Mayor Rudy Clay, tells Reuters that the memorial service would take place at US Steel Works sports stadium, and that more details would follow.
BET BANNED CHRIS BROWN FROM PERFORMING?: Singer's camp denies producers pulled him after Sharpton and Jay-Z complained.
*Producers of the BET Awards have been roundly criticized on blogs, Twitter, and even Facebook (http://www.facebook.com/inbox/readmessage.php?t=1173301457592#/group.php?gi
d=95073053838&ref=share) for the show it put on Sunday, but network execs apparently believed that booking Chris Brown would have been disastrous.
The New York Daily News cites insiders who said producers pulled his performance at the 11th hour because his felony assault wrap for beating Rihanna made him too risky for a night revamped to honor the passing of Michael Jackson.
One source says Brown’s absence came at the insistence of the Rev. Al Sharpton.
“Al made such a fuss to the BET executives that they pulled Chris,”
says the insider, who adds that Jay-Z also had a hand in the decision. “Jay is a big name in the BET community, and he was very vocal about his displeasure with Chris attending the ceremony. He didn’t want Chris anywhere near the awards so close to the court’s ruling.”
As for Brown's reaction, “He’s furious,” a friend of the singer told the newspaper. “BET asked him to perform and waited until the last minute to tell him it was off. He’s pretty shocked and outraged right now.”
Both BET publicists and Brown’s camp deny the allegations and say the singer was never even confirmed for the show. That flies in the face of pre-show reports that Brown was booked specifically to honor Michael Jackson.
Meanwhile, Rihanna was not at the Shrine Auditorium Sunday because she was reportedly hanging out with her crush, Orlando Magic forward Rashard Lewis, in New York. A rep for the singer said, “Rihanna was never meant to attend [the BET awards].”
As previously reported, Usher was due to take part in the revamped ceremony, but was out of town and sent his regrets in a prepared statement.
He attended fashion shows in Paris over the weekend.
Also expected at the ceremony was Justin Timberlake, but he was also out of the country, attending both Wimbledon and the Hard Rock Calling concert in London.
Both Usher and Timberlake agreed to take part in a later tribute to Jackson on BET.
LOTS OF PILLS CONFISCATED FROM MIJAC'S HOME: Plus, Dr. Murray broke news of death to Michael's kids and helped Jermaine with his public statement.
*Los Angeles County Coroner's officials confiscated two big plastic bags full of various prescription drugs from Michael Jackson's rented Holmby Hills mansion on Monday.
A crew from the medical examiner's office, including Assistant Chief Coroner Ed Winter, was seen entering the residence around noon, as the second autopsy requested by Jackson's family got underway downtown, reports E! Online.
The investigators emerged from the house with the pills, but declined to mention any specifics of what they found or where.
Meanwhile, Jackson's personal doctor Conrad Murray – who claims not to have given Jackson OxyContin or Demerol – was working without board certification at the time of the star's death, E! News reported.
The American Board of Internal Medicine confirms that the doctor's most recent board certification examination was taken in 1998…and his certification expired Dec. 31, 2008.
Murray's issues with the medical board apparently didn't stop him from taking a prominent role when he discovered Jackson unconscious in his bedroom Thursday afternoon.
"The doctor rode with Michael Jackson to the hospital," Murray's attorney, Edward Chernoff, told Larry King Live today. "He was in the hospital room. He worked with the doctors at UCLA to try to revive him.
After he was pronounced dead, the doctor stayed in the hospital, spoke with the family members that were there at the time."
According to Chernoff, Murray was the one who broke the news to Jackson's children and advised doctors to break the news gently to the singer's mother, Katherine, who has a heart condition.
"He comforted La Toya and he talked with Jermaine, as well, about Michael and helped Jermaine with a press release," the lawyer said.
"Ultimately, he spoke to the police and left."
MIJAC REPORTEDLY NOT THE FATHER: TMZ cites sources who claim Michael was not the biological father of his three kids.
*There are a myriad of Internet reports – spearheaded by TMZ.com – that claim Michael Jackson was not the biological father of his three children, Prince Michael Jr., 12, Paris, 11 and Prince Michael II (Blanket), 7.
Sources tell TMZ that Jackson did not provide sperm donations for any of his children and that Debbie Rowe was merely a surrogate for Prince Michael Jr. and Paris.
According to Us magazine, Jackson’s dermatologist and Rowe’s former boss Arnold Klein is the biological father to both Prince and Paris.
"He is the dad," a Jackson insider told Us. "He and Debbie signed an agreement saying they would never reveal the truth."
As for Blanket, TMZ reports that the surrogate was never told that the baby was for Jackson.
Jackson's mother Katherine Jackson was granted temporary guardianship of Jackson's three children on Monday. A hearing on the matter is set for Aug. 3.
JOE JACKSON LEFT OUT OF MICHAEL'S WILL: MiJac's former lawyer reportedly plans to file 2002 document with court on Thursday.
*The Wall Street Journal is reporting that Michael Jackson's will, last amended in 2002, provides for his kids and his mother, but leaves nothing to his father Joe.
John Branca, Jackson's primary lawyer from 1980 to 2006, is reportedly in possession of the will – which he claims to have written – and plans to submit it to Los Angeles Superior Court on Thursday.
According to the will, Jackson left his estate — estimated at $1 billion — to his mother, three children and one or more charities. It also reportedly names Branca and music executive John McClain as executors.
It is not known if the 2002 will included instructions on custody of Jackson's three children -- Prince Michael, 12, Paris, 11 and Prince Michael II, 7.
Jackson's mother Katherine Jackson, who was granted temporary guardianship of Jackson's three children on Monday, filed documents in Superior Court Monday stating that she and her husband believed their son died without a valid will.
But, the couple's attorney L. Londell McMillan says his clients are now aware of the will, and the late singer's advisers are looking for additional documents.
VIBE MAGAZINE TO SHUT DOWN: Magazine couldn't survive lack of ad sales; but founder Quincy Jones wants to buy it back.
*Vibe magazine has stopped the presses and folded for good, according to internal memos issued to the staff on Tuesday by editor in chief Danyel Smith and Steve Aaron, former CEO of the Vibe Media Group.
"It is with great sadness, and with heads held high, that we leave the building today," wrote Smith. "We were assigning and editing a Michael Jackson tribute issue when we got the news. It's a tragic week overall, but as the doors of the Vibe Media Group close, on the eve of the magazine's 16th anniversary, it's a sad day for music, for hip hop in particular, and for the millions of readers and users who have loved and continue to love the Vibe brand."
Quincy Jones, the producer behind Jackson's best-selling LPs "Off the Wall" and "Thriller," founded the magazine with Time Warner in 1992, and there was news late Tuesday that he is attempting to keep it in business.
"I’m trying to buy my magazine back now,” Jones said, according to Adrienne Samuels Gibbs of Ebony magazine.
Jones told EbonyJet.com: “They just messed my magazine all up, but I’m gonna get it back. You better believe it, Imma take it online because print and all that stuff is over."
In recent months, Vibe suffered from a steep drop in print advertising, having announced in February that it would cut its rate base from 800,000 to 600,000.
In his memo, Aaron also cited the lack of investments sources need to keep the enterprise afloat.
"The deal market right now remains very poor and at the end of the day, the lack of investment resources to restructure the huge debt load on our small company has made this outcome a reality," he wrote.
Vibe spokeswoman, Tracy Nguyen, said staff at the magazine was formally notified of the shutdown during a 2 p.m. meeting on Tuesday.
JACKSON FAM REPORTEDLY UPSET WITH JOE: Family said to have been 'horrified'
at father's behavior at BET Awards red carpet.
*In the midst of their mourning over the loss of Michael Jackson, the singer's family is also reportedly struggling to deal with the loose cannon that is their family patriarch, Joe Jackson.
According to Chicago Sun-Times columnist Bill Zwecker, the family was "horrified" at the red carpet behavior of Joe during Sunday's BET Awards pre-show coverage on CNN – particularly when he began plugging his new record label.
As previously reported, CNN's Don Lemon asked Joe Jackson how his children were holding up in the wake of Michael's death. He replied, "They're all doing fine," before launching into a promotion of his new Ranch Records label.
Zwecker wrote in his Tuesday column: "Catching up with a top BET insider backstage, I was told, 'You know, it probably shouldn't come as a big surprise. Well, that's just Joe. He cares about Michael for what he can do for him -- dead or alive.'"
FANS PACK APOLLO FOR MIJAC MEMORIAL: Sharpton hosts Harlem tribute to the King of Pop.
*Harlem's famed Apollo Theater was the scene of a massive Michael Jackson love fest Tuesday as fans sang, cheered and danced in the aisles to celebrate the King of Pop at the historic venue that helped to launch his career.
Reuters reported late Tuesday that the line to gain entry to Jackson's memorial stretched across 10 city blocks from the theater with fans chanting Jackson's name to passing tourist buses and singing his songs as they waited to see a 45-minute music and video tribute being repeated throughout the day.
The crowd stood eight to 10 abreast in the 80-degree weather, waiting hours for a chance to enter the theater. Fans were allowed in 600 at a time, where they lay flowers and other mementos at the foot of the stage and danced to Jackson's music as it played over the sound system.
On the stage a spotlight shone on the singer's signature fedora, sparkly glove and sunglasses placed on a stool next to a microphone.
Jackson's hits such as "Bad," "ABC" and "Billie Jean" played.
"He's bad, he's our brother, he's our friend," organizer Al Sharpton told the first audience inside the theater. "Let's love Michael today."
Jackson first performed at the Apollo Amateur Night at age 9 with his brothers. Their group, the Jackson 5, won the competition in 1969, when the pop singer was 11 years old, performing Smokey Robinson's "Who's Lovin'
You." Their win led to a $1,000 deal for 31 shows at the Apollo, said Bobby Schiffman, whose family owned the theater.
MIJAC WRAPPED 3D VIDEO PROJECT BEFORE HIS DEATH: Footage was to be used during singer's London concert run.
*Two weeks before his death on June 25, Michael Jackson competed work on an elaborate 3D production dubbed the "Dome Project" that could be the last video piece ever overseen by the King of Pop, reports the Associated Press.
The video images – some inspired by his "Thriller" era – were reportedly supposed to flash behind him as he performed on stage during his
scheduled 50-date concert run in London.
"It was a groundbreaking effort," said Vince Pace, whose company provided cameras for the shoot, a 3D system he created with filmmaker James Cameron. "To think that Michael's gone now, that's probably the last documented footage of him to be shot in that manner."
Two people with knowledge of the secretive project confirmed its existence Monday to the AP on condition they not be identified because they signed confidentiality agreements.
They said it was a five-week project filmed at Culver Studios. Four sets were constructed for Jackson's production, including a cemetery recalling his 1983 "Thriller" video.
With 3D technology "the audience would have felt like they were visiting the 'Thriller' experience, like they were there," Pace said.
Shooting for the project lasted from June 1-9, with Jackson on the set most days. The project was in post-production, at the time of Jackson's death, and had been expected to be completed next month. It was not immediately clear what would be made of the video footage now.
According to one of the people with knowledge of the project, a willow-thin, pallid Jackson left a memorable impression on the crew, arriving in a caravan of SUVs with hulking security guards in tow. The person said Jackson introduced himself to workers on the set and walked with a spring in his step but at one point needed assistance as he descended steps off a stage.
Besides the cemetery, one set was draped in black with an oversized portrait of Jackson in his "Thriller" werewolf costume. Another set was designed to simulate a lush jungle, and a fourth was built to replicate a construction site, with a screen in the back to allow projection of different backgrounds.
Taping took place in marathon sessions ending early in the morning.
One scene filmed on the construction site set included scantily clad male dancers wearing carpenter's belts.
DRAKE CHOOSES YOUNG MONEY/UNIVERSAL REPUBLIC: Label wins bidding war to sign rap game's hottest new talent.
*Toronto-born rapper Drake has officially signed to Young Money with distribution through Universal Republic, ending a bidding war that reportedly had another Universal label – Motown – in the hunt until the 11th hour.
Drake's debut album, "Thank Me Later," with reported collaborations with Kanye West, Lil Wayne and Jay-Z, is slated for a late 2009 release, reports Billboard.
"Just know that whatever label we sign to it'll be because they'll add to what we've created on our own," Drake, told Billboard.com last month.
"I am very happy in my situation now, which is signed to Cortez [Bryant] and Gee Roberson at Young Money and management through 'Hip Hop Since 1978.' The most important thing for me is being around my team - they are stronger than any label."
This summer, look for Drake on tour with Lil Wayne, Young Jeezy and Soulja Boy Tell'em as part of the "Young Money Presents: Americas Most Wanted Music Festival" trek.
AEG SAYS MIJAC TRIBUTE SHOWS ARE LIKELY: Promoter of canceled London gigs also says Jackson's rehearsals were indeed captured on video.
*The promoter behind Michael Jackson's sold-out comeback tour in London says a tribute show based on his canceled concerts is likely to happen.
Randy Phillips, chief executive of promoter AEG Live, told Britain's Sky News television on Tuesday that the "world needs to see" the production Jackson had been working on.
He says members of the Jackson family, and other international stars, could take part in a tribute show using routines and sets already created for the scrapped tour.
Phillips says he believes Jackson's comeback would have been one of the best arena shows ever produced. He says a video of Jackson's rehearsals for the tour does exist.
MARIAH DRESSES LIKE A MAN IN NEW VIDEO: Photos of shoot in NY show her in various outfits; reports suggest she's spoofing Eminem.
*Mariah Carey was in New York City recently filming a video for her next single "Obsessed," which fires shots at rapper Eminem in retaliation for his song "Bagpipes From Baghdad" from the "Relapse" album.
The blogosphere is full of photos showing Carey – complete with facial hair – dressed up in various outfits as a man. Some reports suggest she's dressing up as Eminem, but the photos appear to show her as random men – which is in keeping with the song's overall theme.
Among the lyrics: "You're so lame. Oh boy, why you so obsessed with me? Oh finally found a girl that you couldn't impress? Last man on the earth still couldn't get this."
Just last month, Carey's husband Nick Cannon blasted Eminem for disrespecting Carey in "Bagpipes from Baghdad," insisting their relationship was never serious. Cannon blogged: "(He is) still obsessed with my wife, the same female that wouldn't let him get to second base from eight years ago."
MICHAEL JACKSON RADIO AIRPLAY UP 1735%: Singer's songs have been in heavy rotation since his death.
*Radio spins for Michael Jackson's biggest hits, and some of his overlooked gems (including a few dozen spins for some of the Jackson's Christmas songs), saturated airwaves immediately after his death on Thursday, and continued throughout the weekend, reports Billboard.
According to research provided by Nielsen BDS of monitored airplay from over 1,600 terrestrial and satellite radio stations, 143 of Jackson's recordings totaled 67,383 plays for the week ending June 28, up 1,735% from last week's sum of 3,671 plays.
After having just one song, "Rock With You," post more than 500 plays in the week prior to his death, 22 of Jackson's tracks eclipsed 1,000 plays this past week, led by his biggest Billboard Hot 100 hit, "Billie Jean"
(4,500 spins). That total places the track at No. 51 among all current or recurrent titles for the week.

JAY-Z OFFICIALLY ANNOUNCES SONY PACT: Rapper confirms distribution deals for Roc Nation.
*Jay-Z's Roc Nation label will be distributed through Sony, the rapper confirmed to Billboard on Friday, while his recent deal with Atlantic is only a one-off situation for his upcoming album, "Blueprint 3," due Sept.
11.
"Sony is Roc Nation. That's where Roc Nation's going through," Jay-Z told the publication.
As for the one-time Atlantic deal, "That's pretty much just for this specific album," he clarified. "Roc Nation -- we're experts in marketing and making records. But we do distribution deals. On this one, we're working directly with the Atlantic staff, which is Julie [Greenwald], Lyor [Cohen], Kevin [Liles] and Kyse [Mike Kyser]. For the rest of the Roc Nation artists, we did a distribution deal with Sony."
Jay-Z also told Billboard he originally approached Def Jam with the same distribution deal idea four years ago, but was shut down.
"You have to figure, this is like four years ago, and to them it was just like, 'Are you crazy? No! Make a song!'" he said. "To me it was like, I've sold companies for huge amounts of money. I'm an entrepreneur -- that's what I've been all my life. I can't just sit here and make records and not do anything else. Why wouldn't you want to do this with me? I felt under-utilized."
When his Def Jam contract was nearing expiration and he had one last album to release with the label (in this case, "Blueprint 3"), Jay-Z opted to buy himself out of the contract for a reportedly $5 million price tag.
JACKSON WAS WORTH $236 MILLION IN 2007: AP uncovers financial documents that were prepared by accounting firm.
*Michael Jackson's net worth as of March 31, 2007, was $236 million, according to financial documents obtained by The Associated Press that shed light on his dubious financial situation.
Jackson had $567.6 million in assets, including his Neverland Ranch, his share of the Sony/ATV Music Publishing catalog that includes the rights to songs by the Beatles, and an assortment of cars, antiques and collectibles, according to a statement of financial condition prepared by Washington-based accounting firm Thompson, Cobb, Bazilio & Associates.
The five-page report says Jackson had debts of $331 million, leaving him with a net worth of $236.6 million. Highlighting his shaky financial health, the singer known for his lavish shopping sprees had just $668,215 in cash, according to the report, which is dated June 12, 2007.
The report says the accounting of Jackson's finances is "based on information produced by his advisers." It paints a picture of Jackson's tangled finances and the mountain of debt he left behind.
The report values Jackson's 50 percent stake in the Sony/ATV Music Publishing catalog — his most prized assets — at $390.6 million.
Another of Jackson's prized possessions, his Neverland Ranch, is valued at $33 million, according to the report. It says Jackson took out a
$23 million loan against the 2,500-acre property in the rolling hills of Santa Barbara County.
He also had $20 million worth of cars, antiques, collectibles and other property.

CONYERS' WIFE RESIGNS FROM DETROIT COUNCIL: Monica Conyers resigns without a fight after pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery.
*Detroit Councilwoman Monica Conyers, the wife of Democratic congressman John Conyers, resigned her seat Monday – three days after she pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit bribery for her vote on a sludge hauling contract.
The 44-year-old quietly had a staffer bring the City Clerk's office a one-paragraph letter announcing her resignation, reports the Associated Press.
Prosecutors said John Conyers knew nothing of his wife's wrongdoing, and he has been cleared of involvement in the bribery case.
More than a year ago, former Detroit mayor Kwame Kilpatrick was confronted with stepping aside or being forced out as mayor over a text-messaging sex scandal. Conyers watched as Kilpatrick lost a monthslong fight to hang on and eventually went to jail.
Conyers faced equally strong demands from colleagues to relinquish her council seat.
"What happened today was necessary. It was not something that was easy," City Council President Ken Cockrel Jr. said. "The next step is for the City Council to really get back to business as usual."
EUR DVD REVIEW: Kamp Katrina
Documentary Examines Plight of New Orleans’ Po’ Whites Post-Katrina
DVD Review by Kam Williams
*Because of the indelible images of masses of black people abandoned on rooftops, under highway overpasses and at the Superdome, many people might think that only African-Americans were adversely affected by Hurricane Katrina.
But the disaster took a terrible ongoing toll on po’ white folk, too, as chronicled in this compelling documentary directed by Ashley Sabin and David Redmon.
The film follows the efforts of Ms. Pearl, an altruistic Native-American woman who, with the approval of her husband, David Cross, converted their backyard in to a tent village for locals left homeless in the wake of the flood that devastated the region a couple of years ago.
David operates a construction company and is willing to employ anyone camping out on the premises in order to help them get back on their feet. In fact, he establishes certain house rules, including no drugs and a mandate that everyone there find work of some kind, even if not with his company.
Unfortunately, the rent-free offer turns out to be flypaper for the disturbed, and what begins as a utopian oasis gradually turns into a neverending nightmare. One guy snaps and literally tries to strangle his girlfriend because she asked him to find her a pot to pee in. Another man is asked to leave because he was pressuring a pregnant woman to get high.
Unsavory characters are attracted to the area by a resident who starts dealing crack, while a delusional mental patient who calls himself The Prophet roams around mumbling to himself incoherently about this being the Apocalypse. A couple is kicked out after stealing a Tiffany lamp from the bedroom of the owners, and a rape victim warns another female to sleep with one eye open. So, it’s clear that what David and Ms. Pearl are dealing with here are the dregs of humanity, but the question is whether the squatters were already like this before Katrina or only bottomed-out after losing all their earthly possessions in the blink of an eye.
This picture is often touching, such as when the hosts play Santas at Christmastime and try to fill each person’s wish list. Surprisingly, most of the requests are for mundane, everyday items, like toilet paper or a tool bag. Unfortunately, the movie doesn’t exactly end on an upbeat note, since the toll takes a heavy emotional toll on everyone, including Ms. Pearl.
Plus, the mother of the newborn surrenders the baby for foster care, and another young woman suffers seizures from snorting coke. Mayor Nagin makes a cameo appearance to crush these displaced folks’ hopes for a helping hand by ending free meal and mental health programs and generally championing corporate interests over those of the longtime locals.
An eye-opening expose’ welcoming white Americans to the Third World.
