New York, NY - Only two weeks after resigning as Chief Operating Officer of The Source magazine, publisher Jeremy Miller announced today the scheduled launch of DOWN magazine – “Dedicated to Southern Hip-Hop Music and Culture.” The first issue will be available on newsstands July 26th throughout 16 “southern” states. Unlike any other hip-hop publication, new and emerging artists from the South can now document their own culture in DOWN.

The “traditional” South has changed when it comes to hip-hop. DOWN will specifically focus on the “southern” hip-hop states as far west as Texas and Oklahoma to as far north as Kansas and Missouri. DOWN will cover hip-hop unlike any other magazine giving readers exclusive access to their favorite southern artists. Since the birth of hip-hop, southern artists have been overlooked and underappreciated for their contributions to the culture. DOWN will give expanded coverage of the up and coming talent that have yet to be heard. Every issue of DOWN will also be accompanied by a compilation CD that will include tracks from unsigned hip-hop artists from the South.

“As an artist, a major element of hip-hop has always been to represent where you’re from and be proud of it,” says Jeremy Miller, publisher of DOWN. “Hip-hop has largely been reported from an East coast perspective, primarily because it was nurtured on the streets of New York, thus leaving the rest of the country in the dark. However, today the airwaves are dominated by southern and mid-west hip-hop artists and DOWN will be the only magazine to turn to for the most comprehensive news on them,” adds Mr. Miller.

DOWN will have solid distribution throughout the entire southern region of the U.S. due to Jeremy Miller’s stellar circulation background. Prior to being Publisher of DOWN, Mr. Miller was Chief Operating Officer of The Source magazine for three years where he was responsible for the publication’s publishing division, including new titles, securing book deals and overseeing foreign licensing agreements. Mr. Miller joined The Source in 1991 as an intern while attending New York University’s Stern School of Business. Hailing from Oklahoma City and an avid fan of hip-hop, Jeremy realizes it is time to put his passion and expertise -southern hip-hop and publishing – together in one package for fans like himself to enjoy.
