      *Finally, something other than a new rap beef to report from the 50 Cent camp.  The artist's year-old G-UNITY foundation has given 10 scholarships to New York’s Queensborough Community College in Bayside for those middle-of-the-road students whom he feels have been “forgotten.” 

      Applicants need only a minimum high school average of 70 - or C - to be eligible. Interested parties must also write a 500-word essay and submit two recommendations from teachers, guidance counselors or work supervisors. The application deadline is June 24 and the winners will be announced July 15.

      "Stars emerge from all segments of a high school class, not just the top," 50 said in a statement. "It is my goal to help some kids who haven't met their full potential yet."

      The monetary gifts, which total $31,000, will be awarded to students from 50’s alma mater Campus Magnet High Schools in Cambria Heights (formerly Andrew Jackson High School), as well as Springfield Gardens High School and Hillcrest High School, said director of development Laura Kotkin. The scholarships will take care of tuition for a year and includes a $300 book stipend.

      50, (real name, Curtis Jackson), dropped out of Andrew Jackson High, but later got his GED, said foundation consultant Nina Biggar. Queensborough is the first college G-UNITY has worked with and the money is among the three biggest grants the foundation has disbursed. The other grants were $150,000 for the Boys Choir of Harlem and $100,000 to the Compton Unified School District in California to support music education.
