*Refusing to sit by quietly as the world moves on, former “American Idol” contestant Corey Clark has released a statement claiming the Fox Network and its hit talent show are trying to “assassinate his character” following his assertion that he slept with “Idol” judge Paula Abdul.

He had previously refused to assist FOX in an investigation of his allegations, stating he wanted nothing to do with the network.  But things have since changed.

"It is painfully clear that unless my fellow ‘AI’ season two contestants and I are directly involved with Fox executives during the investigation, we will never know if an investigation ever really took place,” Clark said in the statement. “With that said, I will not only fully comply with a Fox investigation of ‘American Idol,’ but I will refrain from discussing my information concerning the questionable conduct with anyone except the officials handling the questioning once the investigation begins."

The release went on to say that Clark has the support of several other “AI” season two finalists, although no specific names were given. So far, neither Clark, nor the former idols who have offered their support have been contacted by FOX, the statement said.

It continued: “Clark has agreed to step forward and offer Fox executives his full compliance and participation in a fair and thorough examination regarding ‘American Idol's’ questionable behind the scenes conduct. This new offer coupled with Clark's previous offer to assist any other third party investigations, which remain open, is a sincere gesture to show his willingness to cooperate.”
