FILM/TV BITS: ‘Crash’ wins award; Tyra’s porn double; Oprah not a Scientologist.(September 13, 2005)
*The racially-charged Paul Haggis film “Crash” won the Jury Prize at the Deauville Film Festival in France on Sunday. The event, which lauds American cinema, considered Haggis’ directorial debut to be the strongest work to emerge from the States during the last year. *As Tyra Banks’ new WB talk show premiered Monday, a porn star who looks exactly like her was causing some confusion at newsstands. The September issue of Xtreme magazine, with the headline “Totally Tyra,” features the buck-naked Tyra look-alike on its cover. Cindi Berger, Banks' spokeswoman, tells Page Six: "Clearly, this is not Tyra. Tyra doesn't smoke or drink, and she wouldn't pose nude in a million years." Porn Tyra stars in the just-released flick “Boned,” and will next appear in “That’s Hot.” *Oprah’s girlfriend Gayle King has put to rest rumors that the talk show host’s boy, Tom Cruise, is trying to lead her away from her Southern Baptist Christian roots to become a Scientologist. King told columnist Liz Smith: "Believe me, Liz, Oprah is not aware that Tom is besieging her to give up Christianity for Scientology. Not a word of truth to this one."
