CHAPPELLE SUED BY EX-MANAGER: Lawsuit
reveals details of Comedy Central deal, which
the manager says disappeared when comic
went AWOL.
*When Dave Chappelle walked away from filming the scheduled third season of
“Chappelle’s Show,” he allegedly left without
giving his manager, Mustafa Abuelhija, the
hundreds of thousands of dollars he says he
was due.
Abuelhija, on Monday, made the first move in trying to collect. His lawsuit, filed in a New
York federal court, claims that the comedian
stiffed him on more than $800,000 in payments
associated with the abandoned third season.
While acting as Chappelle's personal manager from September 2004 until he was fired last June,
Abuelhija says he helped negotiate the lucrative
deal for third and fourth seasons of "Chappelle's
Show" with Comedy Central; helped secure a
seven-figure deal for the DVD release of
Chappelle's stand-up special "For What It's Worth"; and acted as a producer on the concert
film "Block Party," which is due for release in
March 2006, among other things.
Abuelhija claims he's owed $864,500 from the "Chappelle's Show" payment, the DVD
advance of "For What It's Worth" and his
percentage of fees from the comic’s personal
appearances during the time Abuelhija was his
manager. He's also seeking a percentage of future profits from DVD sales and "Block
Party," which he says should have listed
him as a producer in the credits.
But here’s where it gets sticky: Abuelhija says his management contract with Chappelle
was entirely verbal and "was never reduced to
writing." Meanwhile, the lawsuit at long last reveals the details of his renewal deal with Comedy
Central, which was reported to have been worth
$50 million. Abuelhija's suit, as seen on the
Web site Smoking Gun, states Chappelle
received a "nonrefundable upfront payment"
of $4.5 million upon signing the renewal deal
and would be paid $275,000 per episode, plus
an additional $25,000 for each rerun. The
contract also gave Chappelle half the royalties
on "Chappelle's Show" DVD and merchandise
sales, retroactive to the first season -- which
has since become one of the best-selling TV-
DVD sets in history.
As previously reported, Comedy Central has dealt with Chappelle’s season three
abandonment last April by choosing to fashion
a new season out of clips that the comedian
recorded for upcoming episodes, but left behind.
PRINCE ENJOYS LIFE OFF THE PLANTATION
New Universal pact puts "slave" days behind him.
*At a press conference Tuesday to announce his upcoming album under a new deal with
Universal Records, His Royal Badness, 47, gave
perhaps the quote of the year when a reporter
asked why a man who scrawled “slave” on his
face in the mid-‘90s to protest the practices of
his old record company would sign a deal with
yet another major record label.
"I don't consider Universal a slave ship,” he said in his famous monotone. “I did my own
agreement ... I got exactly what I wanted."
What Prince got was a one-album deal with Universal, similar to his venture with Columbia
Records in 2003, which called for the label to
manufacture and distribute his 2004 hit album "Musicology" for NPG Records, Prince's label.
Universal will release his upcoming album, "3121," early next year, as well as handle the
administration of Prince's future works and his
complete, extensive back catalog of more than 35 albums and compilations, including landmark
multi-platinum albums “Musicology,” “1999,”
“Sign O' The Times,” “Diamonds and Pearls,”
“Parade,” “Around the World in a Day,”
“Emancipation,” “Purple Rain” and “Batman -- The Motion Picture Soundtrack.”
"I got a chance to structure an agreement the way I saw fit instead of the other way around,"
Prince said.
Universal Music Publishing Group Chairman and CEO David Renzer said in a statement: "Not
only is Prince a legend, but he remains a world-
class musician, considered by many to be the
most prolific hit-maker of our generation as well
as one of the best live artists. The fact that he is
re-signing to Universal Music Publishing Group speaks to the dedication and commitment we
can show to a world-class high caliber artist like
Prince. We are thrilled to have concluded this
deal and consider it a privilege to continue our
long-term relationship with him."
As previously reported, Prince’s video for his new single, "Te Amo Corazon," was directed by
actress Salma Hayek and premiered Tuesday
on VH1 and its affiliated networks, including its
Vspot broadband channel and VH1 Mobile. He
said the steamy ballad is not indicative of what
the entire album sounds like.
He also confirmed that a tour was being planned for 2006, but declined to give details.
JACKSON REALITY SHOW LOOKING FOR
A NETWORK: Project is currently being
shopped to cable outlets. *As if the drama surrounding Michael Jackson isn’t enough, the family is reportedly
trying to step up its presence in the public
eye via a reality television show that would
focus on Tito’s three sons (a.k.a. the group
3T) attempting to make a comeback.
The group, which in the 1990s had way more success overseas than in the States,
will be shown trying to get back into the
music game with the help of their aunts and
uncles, including Auntie LaToya and Uncle
Jermaine. The show will also reportedly
include the challenges of mounting a comeback
with an uncle mired in sexual molestation allegations.
While it is unclear whether Michael will join the rest of the Jackson clan on the
program, there is footage of him interacting
with Tito’s sons in the pilot, which is currently
being shopped around cable networks according
to music producer Cory Rooney, who has
worked with Jennifer Lopez and is producing
an upcoming MTV series called "The Shop."
Also said to be included on the show is the Jackson family softball team in action,
complete with a cameo from San Francisco
Giants slugger Barry Bonds.
Meanwhile, there’s no word on the fate of a previous Jackson family reality show project
that was being shopped to networks last June.
That series was to focus on the way in which
Michael’s family rallied around him
shortly after he was acquitted on 10 counts of child molestation and related charges.
TOOKIE RESIDUE: Becnel planning ‘Rosa
Parks-sized’ funeral; Austria hates Arnold;
Winnie offers to oversee ashes; death
penalty moratorium proposed.
*Stanley Tookie Williams may be gone, but the death penalty debate left in the wake of his
execution by lethal injection early Tuesday is very
much alive and kicking. Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger’s decision Monday not to grant the San Quentin inmate
clemency was seen as an act of betrayal by
the former bodybuilder’s own home country of
Austria, not to mention most of Europe – where
capital punishment has been banned in most
countries and is outlawed by the 25-member
European Union.
Following the governor’s denial of clemency for Tookie, the headline on the front page of one
of Austria’s largest newspapers read, "Terminator."
Liberal Green Party leaders in Schwarzenegger's home province of Styria moved to take back an
honor given to him by the city and to rename
the local Arnold Schwarzenegger sports
stadium “Stanley Tookie Williams Memorial
Stadium.” A prominent Green Party member
of parliament even proposed that Schwarzenegger’s
Austrian citizenship be revoked.
Conservative politicians in Austria, however, defend Schwarzenegger’s decision to deny
clemency. Chancellor Wolfgang Schuessel, who
personally opposes the death penalty, insisted
Tuesday that California's governor had only
abided by the rules of the American justice system.
Elsewhere in Europe, the Vatican strongly opposed the execution, with a top aide to Pope
Benedict XVI condemning it as dictated by the
Holy See's opposition to the death penalty.
Cardinal Renato Martino, head of the Vatican's
justice and peace department, said capital
punishment was "the negation of human dignity."
Back here in the states, five California democrats have proposed legislation that would
place a moratorium on executions until a special
commission finishes examining whether California's criminal justice system allows
innocent people to be convicted.
Its hearing - scheduled long before Tookie’s lethal injection Tuesday - comes as the state is
poised to perform a record number of executions
in 2006.
Tookie’s body, meanwhile, is in the care of his close friend and mentor Barbara Becnel, who
co-authored his children’s books denouncing
violence and gangs. Becnel tells the Los Angeles Times that she is planning a major public memorial
service for Williams in L.A. that would be on the
scale of the funerals for Rosa Parks. She plans to release more details on the service later this
week.
In one of his books, Tookie expressed a wish for his remains, stating: "I want to be buried in
South Africa under a yohirimbi tree or my ashes
scattered in the Blue Nile river to feed the fish
there." Becnel said she would probably arrange
a meeting with former South Africa President
Nelson Mandela to carry out the wish. Mandela’s former wife, Winnie Madikizela- Mandela, on Wednesday offered to help fulfill
his final wish. A spokesman for Madikizela-
Mandela told the Afrikaans daily Beeld that
she will "honor her promise to see that
Williams is buried in South Africa." Becnel, who witnessed Tookie’s execution early Tuesday, believes he is innocent of the
four murders for which he was executed and
said the NAACP Legal Defense Fund has
promised her its resources in proving Williams'
innocence.
In describing his final moments in the death chamber, Becnel said, “He suffered. He was
writhing, lifting his head up and fussing…It was
horrible. To me, it was torture. It took 35 minutes
to kill him."
EMINEM SCORES THIRD NO. 1 ALBUM: Plus,
man accused of killing owner of rapper’s old
studio gets life sentence.
*Things couldn’t be better for Eminem these days. The Detroit rapper is back with the ex-wife
he rapped about killing, and his new career-
spanning album “Curtain Call: The Hits” debuted
on the Billboard 200 at No. 1 Wednesday – his
fourth CD in a row to do so.
Meanwhile, the studio in Pontiac, Mich. where Em used to lay down tracks is also in
the headlines. Terrence T. Moore, the 36-year-
old man accused of fatally shooting the facility’s
owner Amjed "AJ" Abdallah in January 2004,
was sentenced to life in prison Tuesday after
being found guilty in November of first-degree
murder.
Police said Moore – a rapper with the aliases "13,""TT" and "Mad Dog" – shot
Abdallah and stole a mixing board because
he believed Abdallah was overcharging him
for studio time.
Em used the facility’s Studio 8 to record his 1997 LP “Slim Shady.” The rapper’s latest
single, "When I'm Gone," reached No. 8 last
week on Billboard’s Hot 100 and is one of three
new tracks on “Curtain Call,” a retrospective
for Aftermath that sold nearly 441,000 units
in the United States, according to Nielsen
SoundScan. Earlier this month, it debuted at
No. 1 on the U.K. album chart after just two days of sales.
Lil' Wayne's fifth studio album, "Tha Carter II" (Cash Money), earns the rapper his largest first-
week sales tally to date with 240,000 copies
and debuts at No. 2 on The Billboard 200 and No. 1 on the Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums chart.
"Fireman," the set’s first single, is No. 20 this
week on Billboard's Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs list.
Elsewhere on the album chart, Mariah Carey's "The Emancipation of Mimi" (Island Def Jam) falls 7-8
on sales of 151,000 units in its 35th week on the
chart. The Black Eyed Peas' "Monkey Business"
(A&M) bounces back into the top 10 rising 11-9,
and T-Pain's "Rappa Ternt Sanga" (Konvict
Muzik/Jive/Zomba) sold 47,000 to enter at No. 40. MUSIC/CHARITY BITS Foxy press conf.; Lover
wanted; Sammie returns; Luke’s Midget champs;
Robinson PSA; Janice Denise Thomas needs
teddy bear donations.
*Foxy Brown will address her hearing problem at a press conference scheduled for 10:30 a.m.
today at BET’s New York production studio. The
rapper is expected to talk about the severity of
her condition, as well as her music career. BET
and the Hip-Hop Summit Action Network are
hosting the press conference. Expected to attend
are Jay-Z, Russell Simmons, Kimora Lee
Simmons, attorney Joseph Fleming, Foxy’s physician, Reverend Al Sharpton and Dr
Benjamin Chavis.
*Ed Lover is wanted for questioning by police after allegedly punching a 26-year-old woman in
the face at a Manhattan nightclub. According to
Allhiphop.com, Ed Lover’s girlfriend argued with
Letitia Belford and a group of friends in the club’s
VIP area Sunday. Lover, the 42-year-old DJ for
New York’s Power 105.1, reportedly jumped over
a railing in the VIP area and allegedly hit Belford
in the face, leaving her with a wound that required
20 stitches. Belford was treated for her injuries
and filed a formal complaint against the former
“Yo! MTV Raps” host.
*Sammie, who exploded onto the charts at the age of 12 with the No. 1 hit "I Like It," will
release his long delayed sophomore CD,
"Sammie," on Dallas Austin's newly relaunched
Rowdy Records this spring. The set will be
preceded by a radio single and video launch in January. Now an elderly 17 years of age, Sammie
says he’s ready to partake in grown folks music.
"At 12 you're cute. Most people were in awe
because I was 12 and could sing,” he says. “At
17 the market is different. There are a lot of young
artists out now.”
*Booty music godfather Luther Campbell on Saturday witnessed his Pop Warner football squad
win the Jr. Midget Division I Championship. Coach
Luke’s Liberty City Warriors took home the title after beating San Antonio’s Cedar Crest Comets
in the 2005 Pop Warner Super Bowl – which
annually features the top teams from four age/
weight divisions: Jr. Pee Wee, Pee Wee,
Jr. Midget and Midget. Luke, who started the team in 1989, is hoping to feature other celebrity-
coached teams in a showcase game in January,
reports Allhiphop.com. "People have been asking
when my team is gonna play Snoop's team.
Well, we'll have that answer for them next month,"
he said.
*Claudette Robinson, an original member of Motown's Smokey Robinson and the Miracles,
and Los Angeles County Sheriff Lee Baca have
both recorded a Public Service Announcement
(PSA) for radio titled "Call The Children
Home." Sponsored by the non-profit Motown Alumni Association (MAA), the message is in
response to the call for more parental involvement
in the lives of our youth, and addresses the
senseless violence taking place daily
across the country. Future PSA's will feature voiceovers of other original Motown artists and
musicians, civic leaders, and others willing to
hold up the banner. The message in essence is:
"It's getting late; do you know where
your children are? Call the children home." *The Janice Denise Thomas Foundation is in need of about 150 more teddy bears that will
be handed out to patients at Martin Luther King Jr.
Hospital in Los Angeles. The foundation – created in 1999 by motivational speaker James
Thomas in honor of his sister and to help women
with cancer – gives teddy bears to hospital bound
cancer patients during the holidays. To
donate a teddy bear, please call 310-357-5462. James Thomas’ "Five Minutes of Motivation"
radio broadcast may be heard on "KTYM 1460
AM" or www.ktym.com at 10:45 a.m. PST. The
current topic is “relationships.”
FILM/TV BITS: Foxx’s ‘Blood’; Rodriguez pays
up; Seal in Bond film; Phil nabs bigamist; BET’s
Lee at Revlon; Perry touts ‘Reunion.’
*As previously reported, Jamie Foxx is attached to star in Paramount’s adaptation of
Jeff Stetson's novel "Blood on the Leaves," the
story of a district attorney who struggles with feelings of revenge as he prosecutes a black
history professor charged with the murder of
white men who were accused of crimes against
blacks during the civil rights movement. In
further details revealed Wednesday, Foxx is
set to play the district attorney, and Stetson,
whose novel “Blood on the Leaves” was published
in July 2004 by Warner Books, will adapt his
own work for the big screen.
*“Lost” star Michelle Rodriguez has paid two outstanding speeding tickets that she
picked up while filming the ABC drama on the
Hawaiian island of Oahu. Both totaled $657 in
fines, reports the Associated Press. On Oct.
20, the actress was clocked going 90 mph in
a 35 mph zone. She was stopped again on Nov.
1 for going 83 mph in a 55 mph zone. An August
speeding ticket had previously been settled for $197. On Dec. 29, she’s due back in court to
face drunk driving charges after police caught
her swerving on Nov. 24. If this new charge is
found to violate the terms of probation
stemming from a 2004 DUI in Los Angeles, Rodriguez could be sent directly to jail.
*British pop star Seal is reportedly in talks to star in the next James Bond film as
the big bad villain. According to Moviehole.net,
the “Kiss From a Rose” singer is up for the
role of a South African money launderer
named Solari in the upcoming 007 flick,
“Casino Royal.” A source tells the Web site:
"Seal has auditioned several times for this
film and everyone was delighted."
*Accused bigamist Charles Edward Hicks can thank Dr. Phil for his arrest in Charlotte,
North Carolina Monday evening. Earlier in
the day, the sister of his girlfriend recognized
him on the talk show when his picture
was flashed on the screen as a fugitive bigamist. “I said 'Oh, dear God, that man is dating my
sister.' I knew that that was him," Linda
Hembree told the Associated Press about her
discovery. Hicks, 61, was arrested later Monday
at the Charlotte home of Hembree's sister
Barbara Grant on charges that he is married to
two women at the same time. Bail was set at
$25,000.
*The Board of Directors for Revlon, Inc. has elected BET President and CEO Debra L.
Lee among its new directors, effective Jan. 1,
2006. Also in January, Lee is expected to be
appointed as BET Chairman. The election of
Lee and another woman, Kathi P. Seifert , will increase the size of Revlon’s Board of
Directors to 12 members.
*Tyler Perry has posted another letter to fans on his Web site. Among Christmas well-
wishes, he reveals that test screenings for the
upcoming “Madea’s Family Reunion” film “scored higher than ‘Diary (of a Mad Black Woman)’
with a test audience, so I can’t wait for you all
to see it and hit the message board and tell me
what you think.” The Web site, www.tylerperry.com,
also features a trailer for “Madea’s Family Reunion,”
which is due in theaters on Feb. 24. SPORTS BITS: Ivy League’s first black coach;
Carl Lewis in ‘Last Adam’; new Ali book ‘Sucker
Punch’; Tim Montgomery suspended for steroids.
*Columbia University entered the record books Sunday with the hiring of Norries Wilson
as the first African American head football
coach in Ivy League history. Wilson takes
command of a terrible team that went 2-8 this
year and hasn’t had a winning season since 1996. "I want to say that we're going to be
successful in football here at Columbia,"
Wilson said at a press conference Monday.
"A lot of people don't believe that. A lot of my
friends call me and say, 'Coach, what are you
doing?' And I say, 'Well, we're going
to go win some games.' We're going to teach them how to win and leave them with a great
experience as far as playing football." Wilson
had spent the last seven seasons as an
assistant at UConn before replacing former
Columbia football coach Bob Shoop.
*Olympic gold medalist Carl Lewis is starring in Descending Dove Productions' feature
length film, “The Last Adam.” The track
legend portrays a professional baseball player
who faces a serious health challenge. The
movie – a 2005 Atlanta Film Festival Southeastern
Media Winner and a 2004 Hollywood Black
Film Festival finalist – is now in post-production
after recently wrapping a 19-day shoot in the
ATL’s Adams Park, Grant Park and other
metropolitan neighborhoods. For more
information about Descending Dove and
The Last Adam, please visit
www.thelastadammovie.com. *A new book about Muhammad Ali claims to offer a “history-changing look” at the life
and legacy of the boxing icon. “Sucker Punch:
The Hard Left Hook that Dazed Ali and Killed
King’s Dream,” due in stores Jan. 31, is
written by Emmy-wining writer and producer Jack Cashill and tells, among other things, “of
how Elijah Muhammad seduced Ali and how
that seduction spelled the betrayal of Dr.
King’s dream, the death of Malcolm X, the
humiliation of Joe Frazier, the rise of Don King, and the tragic undoing of Mike Tyson.” Cashill
also explores the changing mores and racial
dynamics of the 1960s alongside Ali’s epic
battles in the ring.
*Track star Tim Montgomery has been suspended from competition for two years
by the Swiss-based Court of Arbitration for
Sport after they ruled that he had used the
anabolic steroid THG, a.k.a. "the clear."
Montgomery had been the world record holder
in the 100-meter dash until last June. He had
not failed a drug test, but the court ruled that
the evidence against the 30-year-old, based
heavily on the testimony of track star Kelli
White, was incontrovertible. Montgomery will be stripped of honors and prize money
going back to March 2001 – when the courts
determined he began using steroids. He also
loses Olympic and world-championship medals
for that time period.
PRYOR GOES OUT FIGHTING AGAINST ANIMAL CRUELTY: Late comedian and wife sent
letter of concern to Indiana sheriff a week before death.
*A week before his death Saturday of a heart attack, Richard Pryor and his wife
Jennifer Lee Pryor sent a letter to an Indiana
county sheriff expressing outrage about an
animal cruelty case.
According to the Associated Press, the couple had learned that a St. Joseph County
police officer, Curt Seufert, was placed on
administrative leave last month while state
police investigated whether he killed his
girlfriend's dog. The Pryors' letter urged that the “shocking” case be given prompt attention.
"We respectfully ask you to not let this be 'swept under the rug,'" read the letter, signed
by the groundbreaking comedian and his wife.
Sheriff Frank Canarecci said a police report indicated Seufert and his girlfriend, Jennifer L.
Radican, 27, a corporal with the South Bend
Police Department, had argued on Nov. 25. The next day, Radican returned home to find
one of her two dogs dead in the basement.
Jennifer Pryor confirmed Tuesday to the South Bend Tribune that the couple sent the
letter to the sheriff.
"We were so disturbed by that," she said. "Richard and I have always had a strong affinity
for animals."
The internal investigation is ongoing, and no decision has yet been made, according
to Canarecci.
ROBERT JOHNSON A STEP CLOSER TO
ULTIMATE DREAM: BET founder forms private
equity fund manager in quest to rewrite history books.
*Robert Johnson, founder of Black Entertainment Television, said on Tuesday he
was forming a private equity fund manager with
Carlyle Group, in his latest move to build the
largest African-American owned asset
management company in the United States.
"My philosophy is when I see business sectors not yet effectively penetrated by African
Americans, I ask myself why is that, and how
can I change it," he said, noting the lack
of African-American asset managers in
the private equity field. Black asset managers who perform well could be able to win more and more business
from investors and public pension funds looking
for minority fund managers, Johnson told
the Associated Press.
The fund will be a long-term venture and will be managed by one of the largest teams
of African-American professionals in the private
equity community, Johnson said.
His holding company, RLJ Cos., has signed a letter of intent with Carlyle, the world's largest
private equity firm, to invest in mid-sized
private companies in the media, financial services and business services industries.
Carlyle-RLJ's first fund aims to be more than
$500 million, and will make investments in
the $10 million to $40 million range, Johnson
said. The firm will hire about three senior
professionals, and another four to
seven more junior or support staff. EUR MOTIVATIONAL NOTE The 5 Stages of Grief were defined by Elisabeth Kubler-Ross in her book "On Death and Dying."
The 5 Stages define the process a bereaved
person must go through in order to resolve
their grief. Grief is a complicated, multi-
dimensional and individual process that
can never be "one size fits all." The five stages are:
Denial (this isn't happening to me!) Anger (why is this happening to me?) Bargaining (I promise I'll be a better person if...) Depression (I don't care anymore) Acceptance (I'm ready for whatever comes) When divorce or a breakup happens, it is still a loss even though someone didn't die. You
will still go through a grief process to heal. In
my "How to Love with a Smart Heart"
relationships seminars and my grief seminars
"New Chapters," I share the following 5 stages
of grief women and men go through when a
breakup or divorce happens:
Denial - Oh, he/she will call --- he/she is just
busy---we've been too together so long --- it
can't be over --- I don't "see" any red flags.
Anger - how dare he/she do this to me! - -- after all I've given and sacrificed.
Who does he think he is? I feel like a fool! I want revenge. I want him/her to hurt like I hurt.
Bargaining - Can't we at least be friends? --- ok I'll do whatever you want.
Depression - I can't breathe - I can't get up - I'm staring at the phone, I can't eat - I can't think -
what did I do wrong? - what's wrong with me?
Acceptance - My faith, self-esteem and courage are restored. Sometimes you love and sometimes
you learn. Even though it hurts so bad, I must
remember that everyone hurts in some way. I
don't have to live like a victim. My emotional
maturity happens when I learn to live with
some unanswered questions. It is -- what it
is - -- and I'm ready to get back into life. I will
not let these negative fears and emotions ruin
and control my life. I still may have some hard
days ahead but I will rise above this. I can't
control what others do or feel but I can control how I respond to this closing chapter in my life
story. I'm taking my power and self- respect
back. Better days are ahead. Peace and joy
are important for my healing. I deserve more
and I'm ready to let the light back into my life.
I am a beautiful, whole, divine and precious
child of God. I'm a good person and I
won't let this experience hurt me anymore because I see now --- that what I thought was
rejection --- is really God's protection ---
leading me in a new direction. Hallelujah!!!!! "It don't hurt anymore. All my teardrops are dried. No more walkin' the floor with that burnin'
inside -- just to think it could be. Time has opened
the door and at last I am free. I don't hurt anymore. No use to deny I wanted to die the
day you said we were through. But now that I
find you're out of my mind, I can't believe that
it's true. I've forgotten somehow that I cared
so before and it's wonderful now I don't hurt
anymore"

EUR FEEDBACK (MYfeedback@eurweb.com) *Charles Ellis, St. Louis, MO: "I'm writing in response to Celeste's question in regard to Charles Manson (12/13 EUR), and why he was not executed for the crimes he orchestrated. - RIP Tookie - When those crimes were committed (c. 1969-70), there was a ban on the death penalty and no one could be put to death (under the justice system) for their crimes. Although Manson himself was not present at the Tate/La Bianca killings, he was convicted of first degree murder on January 25, 1971, for ordering and directing them, and on March 29 was sentenced to death. The death sentence was later automatically commuted to life in prison after the California Supreme Court's People v. Anderson decision [1972] resulted in the invalidation of all death sentences imposed in California prior to 1972. The killers, giggling in court, were asked if they felt remorse, and gave answers that indicated they did not.' (from Wikipedia.com). To add insult to injury, he (Manson) will be up for parole in 2007. Hope that helps." *Skyler Ricketts (no city given): Richard Pryor left a legacy to be proud of! He was one of the funniest comedians of our time. He not only made us laugh live but on the screen in such films as 'Silver Streak' & 'Brewster's Millions.' We ALL fall short; he was no exception. Yet he was able even through his battle with MS to seemingly maintain the dignity that he richly deserved. I am sure GOD in His Unconditional Love & Mercy, forgave this 'Icon of Comedy.' While he was ill, we all believed to see him again, one more time. Knowing he is gone does leave a void." Speak Out
