*How you gonna throw a Super Bowl in Aretha Franklin’s back yard and not invite Aretha Franklin out to sang? The Queen of Soul admits she felt a little slighted when organizers of the championship game announced that the Rolling Stones would perform at halftime. During the event’s planning stages, producers had yet to tap into the rich well of talent the city has produced throughout the decades. “I didn't think there was enough (Detroit representation) by any means. And it was my feeling: ‘How dare you come to Detroit, a city of legends — musical legends plural — and not ask one or two of them to participate,’” Franklin told the Associated Press Tuesday. “That's not the way it should be. Of course, they made that correction with no sweat.” After a public outcry from Detroit music fans, Franklin was booked by Super Bowl organizers to sing the National Anthem along with New Orleans legends Aaron Neville and Dr. John, and a 150-member choir. Franklin says she’s been asked many times by the NFL to belt a tune at the Super Bowl, but because she will not get on an airplane, the singer has always turned down those requests. As previously reported, Motown legend Stevie Wonder was eventually brought on board to perform in a pre-game event. Singer India.Arie has just been added to the pre-game bill, joining Wonder, John Legend and Joss Stone in singing Wonder’s hits and other Motown classics. Motown vets The Four Tops will also perform prior to kickoff, but they will not be carried live on the ABC broadcast. Speak Out
