DAVE CHAPPELLE SCHEDULES STANDUP GIG IN SEATTLE: Comic to unleash new material at Paramount Theatre.(February 16, 2006)
*Perhaps sensing Seattle could use some cheering up after a tough Super Bowl loss, comedian Dave Chappelle has scheduled a stand-up show at the city's Paramount Theatre for Sunday (Feb. 19). Tickets for Sunday's 7 p.m. show went on sale at 10 a.m. Wednesday, and were priced at $52.50, excluding fees, according to Paramount's Web site. The sudden gig follows several surprise shows Chappelle performed upon his return from a mini-spiritual retreat in South Africa last year. The 32-year-old comedian left behind his $50 million deal with Comedy Central and his series “Chappelle’s Show” in mid-production because he felt too many people were trying to control him. Comedy Central announced in December that four half-hour episodes of "Chappelle's Show," taped before he took off, will premiere this spring. Meanwhile, his documentary film “Block Party,” which follows the organization and execution of a Brooklyn concert featuring Kanye West, Erykah Badu, the Fugees and more, will be released on March 3.
