*Even though on several occasions she's said she wanted the job, Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice, ruled out applying for the position of NFL commissioner after Paul Tagliabue retires.

"Unfortunately, it came open at the wrong time," Rice said Wednesday, clearly amused when a reporter posed the question. "Obviously, I'm very busy as secretary of state, and I intend to continue to be secretary of state as long as the president of the United States will have me."

Rice, a pro football fan, has frequently said she aspires to run the league one day. However, ever since Tagliabue announced he would retire in July, Rice's aides have said she was not interested. Now, the words have come straight from her.
