CRAZED FANS LEAD TO EXTRA ‘SNAKES’ SHOOT: Samuel L. Jackson movie adds five days of filming; PG-13 moved to R rating.(March 24, 2006)
*As soon as New Line Cinema announced that “Snakes on a Plane” was on their production slate for 2006 with Samuel L. Jackson in the lead, film fans immediately took to the campy title and began flooding the Internet with fan sites, blogs, T-shirts, poems, fiction and songs, according to the Hollywood Reporter. "The title is so clear and so straightforward," said Brian Finkelstein, a Washington, D.C., native who launched the blog Snakesonablog.com and who hopes to earn tickets to the movie's premiere. "You know exactly what you're going to get." The crazy fan following has prompted New Line to embrace the phenomenon and even reassemble the cast for five additional days of shooting at a Los Angeles studio lot to include some fan suggestions, including more gore, death, nudity and way more snakes. Needless to say, the extra pieces have moved the film’s PG-13 rating to R. Chris Rohan of Bethesda, Md. created an elaborate, R-rated audio trailer that uses a Sam Jackson sound-alike shouting, "I want these motherf***ing snakes off the motherf***ing plane!" Soon, fans got behind the spoof and demanded that that phrase also appear in the movie. During the reshoot, Jackson filmed a scene where he barks the line. "It's a genius title," Rohan explains to the Hollywood Reporter. "It's so stupid it's great. It invites satire, but it's something you just love. It's something I can't explain. You either get it or you don't." Directed by David R. Ellis, "Snakes on a Plane" (or as bloggers would say, “SoaP”) stars Jackson as an FBI agent who has to fight a planeload of snakes unleashed by an assassin bent on killing a witness in protective custody. It slithers into theaters on Aug. 18. You can check out the trailer HERE.
