REGGAE UPDATES FROM JAMAICA: Wayne Wonder to release new video and album

. Wayne Wonder to release new video and album

     Singer Wayne Wonder is gearing up to shoot the video for his track Don't Give a Damn, which is featured prominently on the Red Bull and Guinness rhythm. The song is said to be an exclusive track for his upcoming VP Records album. The shoot is expected to take place early next month.

     Additionally, Wayne has a bunch of new singles set to hit radio. They include the Tony Kelly-produced Gonna Love U. Wonder has been working tirelessly in the studio completing tracks for the upcoming still untitled album. The album which is due out this summer will feature appearances from Wonder's alter ego, Surprise as well as a number of guests.

     In April, Wonder will be re-launching a new version of his website, waynewonder.com He recently hit the charts with the Seasons rhythm smash, I Still Believe.

 

. Kymani Marley, Turbulence, Mr. Vegas, and Lexxus join roster for Irie Jam Radio Celebrity Soccer Match

     When the 7th annual Irie Jam Celebrity Soccer March gets underway on May 29 at the Roy Wilkins Park in New York, among the celebrities scheduled to ht the playfield are reggae crooner Kymani Marley, Turbulence, Mr. Vegas and Lexxus.

     Bascom X, Anthony Cruz, Big Yard recording artiste Ky-eenie, Mr. Peppa, Nanko, Gyptian, Richie Spice, Mad Cobra, Jessie Jenda and Tanto Metro and Devonte are also on the set to hit the playfield.

. Fantan Mojah's debut album hits number one

     Hail the King, the debut album from Downsound Records artiste Fantan Mojah, is number one on local album charts. The album which has been reportedly doing well in parts of Europe is number five on the New York Reggae Album chart.

     Commenting on his feat, Fantan told this column 'I am just grateful to my fans that are supporting my album in Jamaica, mi love the support'. He added 'The album is also doing well overseas, in fact, a few weeks ago, the album was leading Jr. Gong, and even I-Wayne on the reggae album charts in Europe, and only Lucky Dube was ahead of me. The people are responding to me, Downsound is already into the third pressing of the album so we are registering a lot of real sales and subsequent re-orders which shows that we are quickly gaining momentum'.

     Released last December, Hail the King contains the hits Uplift Yourself with First Born, Corruption, Thanks and Praise, and the number one hits Hail the King and Hungry. Fantan will be embarking on an eight week trek across Europe to promote the album.

 

. Turbulence is number one in South Florida with Ital Stew

     Turbulence earns the second number one song of his career with Ital Stew. The song released on the Tads label takes over the number one spot on the South Florida Reggae chart. Turbulence's previous sole chart topper was Notorious. He had previously peaked at number two with We Got the Love featuring Sasha. Name and Number on the No Doubt label peaked at number four. Tads Records will be releasing an album from Turbulence in May. The album will be called Ital Stew.

 

. George Nooks teams up with Toronto-based reggae singer Steele George Nooks recently teamed up with

     Toronto-based reggae singer Steele for the track What's Wrong Wid We. A video for the song has been making the rounds locally. Nooks' album of covers of Dennis Brown songs titled George Nooks Sings Dennis Brown has been doing well locally and overseas. It is number two on the New York Reggae album chart.

 

. Da'Ville returns from two week tour of Japan

     Singer Da'Ville is back from his recent two week tour of Japan. He had been out of the island since the middle of February where he did a Valentine's Day show in Canada, and a post-valentine showcase in South Florida, USA. After performing in the US, Da'Ville immediately left for Japan where he did a series of shows in support of his recently released album In Heaven. The album according to reports, has been doing well in Japan since its release late last year.

     Da'Ville said he is in the middle of commencing work on his sophomore album which he anticipates will be completed in time for a late 2006 release in Europe. Fans who have been waiting for the local release of the album In Heaven will have to wait until summer. According to Da'Ville, the album is being fine tuned with new tracks for release in Jamaica, the Caribbean and North America.

     Da'Ville recently hit the charts with Can't Get Over You. His previous hits include In Heaven, Baby Bring it On, and a cover of All My Life with Marcia Griffiths.
