BABYFACE SUES ANITA: He claims she owes him at least $250,000(April 14, 2006)
*Who knew?! We thought they were like ... best buds and stuff. Maybe they were until the money got funny. Babyface, whose real name is Kenny Edmonds, filed a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Anita Baker Thursday, alleging she owes him at least $250,000.
The dispute comes down to this: 'face claims he co-wrote and produced the song "Like You Used to Do," which was released by Blue Note Records on Baker's album, "My Everything." The CD went on to sell more than 500,000 copies reaching gold status, according to the Los Angeles Superior Court lawsuit. The lawsuit that although Edmonds was credited in the liner notes as a singer, co-writer and producer on the song, Baker has refused to pay his producer fees, resulting in damages of at least $100,000, according to the suit. There's more. Edmonds, 47, also alleges he and Baker had an oral agreement to perform four concert dates together last year, but she canceled two shows and refuses to pay him the $75,000 per show he was to receive for those dates.
