     (LOS ANGELES)  -- Leisel “Q” Quamie, CEO of Styling Your Image, LLC, is presenting a self esteem-building workshop for 14-18-year-old girls from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at Locke High School in Los Angeles.

     The event, titled, “Beauty & Love…Love & Beauty,” was conceived after Quamie, whose clients include actress Angela Bassett and Jay Manuel of UPN’s top-rated reality TV series, “America’s Next Top Model,” realized how deeply fashion affects teens’ self esteem.

     “As a celebrity fashion stylist, I feel a sense of responsibility when I dress anyone for an event, a photo shoot or a music video. It’s disturbing to know that girls look at celebrities, internalize their images and deduce that they’re not worthy because they are not like that celebrity.  With the help of my sisters in Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., ‘Beauty & Love…Love and Beauty’ will show that self-worth should not be defined by imitating what’s in magazines and videos.”

     “Beauty & Love…Love & Beauty” will include:

·         Fashion, health and beauty pros, including former “America’s Next Top Model” judge and fashion stylist Nole’ Marin, discussing their professions and providing self-esteem building techniques;

·         A fashion swap.  Participants will trade personal clothing or accessory items (that are in excellent condition) with one another.

·         A clothing drive. Items will be donated to teen female Hurricane Katrina survivors currently living in Los Angeles;

·         A mini fashion show called, “My Style, and I am Proud of It,” featuring t-shirts designed, cut and sewn by participants.

     Quamie said the event will be documented, journaled and blogged.  “Everyone who attends ‘Beauty & Love…Love & Beauty’ – teens and adults – can provide feedback on successes, concerns and ask questions relating to self esteem through these methods of communication.”

     “Beauty & Love…Love & Beauty” will be held from 10 a.m.-2 p.m. on Saturday, April 29 at Locke High School, 325 E. 111th Street, between Avalon Boulevard and San Pedro Avenue, in Los Angeles.  Teens are asked to bring clothing in excellent condition for the clothing swap and Hurricane Katrina donations.  Light refreshments will be provided.
