      *Forest Whitaker will have a limited run on the sixth season of FX’s critically-acclaimed drama, “The Shield,” which begins in early 2007. The actor joined the show this year as an Internal Affairs detective investigating the shady doings of a Los Angeles task force. The show was renewed Monday for a seventh and final season. Shawn Ryan will return as showrunner, along with the entire cast for the remaining 23 episodes, including Michael Chiklis.

       *Montel Williams, who is battling multiple sclerosis, is taking his fight to legalize medical marijuana to New Jersey. The talk show host is scheduled to speak at a hearing on the herb in Trenton and will also attend the group’s gala event hosted by Susan Sarandon and Mary-Louise Parker.       

      *The film “16 Blocks,” starring Mos Def as a convict being escorted from jail to the courthouse 16 blocks away, will arrive on DVD June 13 from Warner Home Video.  Bruce Willis stars as a New York detective assigned to accompany Mos’ character, but faces obstacles when his  ex-partners try to stop him from arriving at the courthouse.      

       *Hilton Ruiz, a piano prodigy who went on to become a force in Afro-Cuban jazz, died early Tuesday, never regaining consciousness after a fall in front of a French Quarter bar. He was 54.  Ruiz had been in New Orleans working on a Hurricane Katrina benefit project when he fell on May 19. There were early reports that he may have been beaten, however, witness have come forward to confirm that the musician fell accidentally. Throughout his career, Ruiz worked with such artists as Tito Puente, Dizzy Gillespie and Charles Mingus. He was featured on the 1997 video "The Best of Latin Jazz," and his song "Something Grand" was included on the soundtrack of the film "American Beauty."  

      *Rapper Chingy and production team Trak Starz are being sued by a St. Louis man who claims Chingy breached a contract with his label in order to sign with Trak Starz, who eventually ushered him toward a deal with Ludacris’ Disturbing Tha Peace imprint. According to Allhiphop.com, the lawsuit from Ronald Gavin seeks over $250,000 in damages.

       *Michael Jackson’s brother Randy has created a spot for himself on MySpace.com. According to Fox 411’s Roger Friedman, the site is run by the MiJac fan who was served with a restraining order last year by former Court TV reporter Diane Dimond. Included on the site are two songs from Randy’s 1989 solo album, a blog and pictures of his MySpace friends. Randy is also featuring a contest soliciting the best poems and artwork from fans. Winners will receive his autograph.

       *Gnarls Barkley’s nine-week reign atop the U.K. singles chart has ended. After their tune “Crazy” set a record for being the only song in history to reach No. 1 on downloads alone, the duo’s label deleted the song last Monday to make way for their follow-up single. “Crazy” was knocked off of its perch by Thom's "I Wish I Was a Punk Rocker (With Flowers in My Hair)." 

       *Wyclef Jean’s duet with Shakira, “Hips Don’t Lie,” has been recognized as the “most played song in pop radio history” according to Nielsen Broadcast Data Systems. The song ruled in spins during the week ending 6/4/06, beating out the previous record by Gwen Stefani's "Hollaback Girl" in the week ending 6/5/05. Shakira's song's total of 9,657 times played on the radio broke Stefani's previous record of 9,582.      

       *As fans pray for a new and improved Whitney Houston to emerge from her purple haze, singer Michael Bolton is already laying the groundwork for a possible duet with the fallen diva. "I'd really love to have Whitney Houston sing one of my songs,” he said, according to World Entertainment News Network. “I've met and done fundraisers with her, I've never performed with her. She has a voice, an instrument and also a soul that I would love to have singing my songs I'd love to have Whitney step up and deliver something with all she's got."
