*Third World lead singer Bunny Rugs’ cover of Now That We Found Love moves up from number 21 to number 13 on the latest issue of Billboard’s Dance Music Club Play chart. The chart is led by Madonna who just logged her umpteenth number one dance hit with Get Together.

In an interview earlier this week, Rugs said that Now That We Found Love was recorded 12 years ago at the Black Scorpio studios in Kingston. ‘We had Sean Paul on the song when we recorded it over by Jack Scorpio in 1994. But the label has subsequently released it without Sean Paul’s vocals’, Rugs explained.

The song was first released on an album that Rugs had done for Shanchie Records. It later made the cut of songs on another solo album titled What a World. Rugs who later recorded a gospel album called I’m Sure under the moniker The Voice, says the version of Now That We Found Love that’s on the Billboard charts is a slightly up tempo version. The song has been released by a Florida based label called Global Records.

Rugs says a video for the song is already in the planning stages, and the label plans to service the song to the US urban market.  Third World will be hitting Europe for a series of dates beginning the end of this month into July. The group will then head to Japan for ten days and then return to the US for the US version of Reggae Sunsplash which runs from August 8 until September 3. Morgan Heritage Toots and the Maytals, and Maxi Priest, will also be on that outing.

It bullets from 68 to 62 on the Hot 100 chart.

Baby Cham’s Ghetto Story slips 20 to 21 on the Rap Singles chart while Beenie Man’s Hmm Hmm stalls at number 24.  Moving over to the R&B Hip Hop Singles & Tracks listing, Baby Cham’s Ghetto Story slips from 27 to 32, while Hmm Hmm loses it steam falling from 35 to 43.

* Daville’s Always on My Mind hits the charts

Singer Daville has hit the charts with his original lovers rock ballad, Always on My Mind. The song is riding local charts as well as the New York Reggae chart.  It’s his fourth trek on the New York Reggae chart, following Can’t Get over You, In Heaven and All My Life which featured Marcia Griffiths. The feedback on Always on My Mind according to Daville has been tremendous.
‘When I am walking someone will just walk up to me and say, "Mi love how yuh a work singer’, he said.  He further added 'Can't Get Over You was another big song for me. Both songs have been creating quite an impact. As a matter of fact, Can't Get over You has just been added to VP Records Reggae Gold 2006 compilation album’.  Both songs will be featured on the Can't Get over You album which is due out this summer.

Da'Ville is expected to be on most if not all major upcoming summer events. ‘There will be no easing up for me. I will be very busy in the studios, on the music circuit and doing everything to the best of my ability that will please my fans’, he said.

· Cecile signs with SoBe Entertainment

Dancehall artiste Cecile has signed with SoBe Entertainment. The label has been enjoying success on the Billboard charts with its breakout artiste, Urban Mystic.

Cecile will this weekend leave for performances at the Apollo Theatre in New York, Paris and Germany. She will then head back to the island to fulfill performance obligations, before heading off to Europe for a series of scheduled performances.

Cecile, who is booked for Reggae Sunsplash, says her debut album Bad Gal is finally coming out this year on the Danga Zone/SoBe Entertainment label. The set features a collaboration with Beenie Man which was produced by hit-making producer Scott Storch. One of the lead off singles, Hot Like That featuring rapper Trina and re-recorded on the original Giggy rhythm, has been sent to US mainstream radio for airplay consideration. She will be promoting the song in the US over the next couple of months.

* Tony Matterhorn’s Dutty Wine crunches the competition

The song Dutty Wine has placed sound system selector Tony Matterhorn into the spotlight in a different way. This time as an artiste. But don’t think that this is the last we will be hearing from Matterhorn musically. He now has a follow up tune on the Natural Bridge Records Gully Slime rhythm. Dutty Wine for the most part has crunched all the competition on the major reggae charts both locally and overseas. Apart from taking the top spot on the local charts, Dutty Wine is now number one on the New York Reggae chart, the BBC 1Xtra Dancehall chart in the UK and the reggae charts in Canada.
