BIG BUDGET FILMS

     The Devil Wears Prada (PG-13 for sensuality) Anne Hathaway stars opposite Meryl Streep in this adaptation of the best seller of the same name about a small-town girl just out of college who lands a job in NYC as an assistant to a very demanding, high-powered magazine editor.

 

     Superman Returns (PG-13 for intense action violence) Brandon Routh takes over the title role for a new chapter in the life of the Man of Steel as he returns from Krypton to declare his undying love for Lois Lane (Kate Bosworth) while protecting the planet from the cataclysmic destruction planned by his arch enemy Lex Luthor (Kevin Spacey). Back cast includes Frank Langella, James Marsden, Parker Posey, Eva Marie Saint and Kal Penn.

 

 

INDEPENDENT & FOREIGN FILMS

     The Blood of My Brother (Unrated) Iraq War documentary examines the trials and tribulations of a Shiite family inclined to join the insurgency against the U.S. after their eldest son was shot in front of a mosque by American soldiers on the night of the grand opening of his photo shop. (In English and Arabic with subtitles)

 

     Four-Eyed Monsters (Unrated) Internet Age love story about a struggling artist/waitress (Susan Buice) and a shy video moviemaker (Arin Crumley) who fall in love online and embark on an unusual relationship in which they decide not to communicate verbally with each other even when they spend time together in person.

 

     The Motel (Unrated) Coming-of-age comedy about the bond forged over the course of a week between a fatherless, 13 year-old boy (Jeffrey Chyau), who lives and works at his family-owned motel, and a well-meaning guest (Sung

Kang) intent on turning the kid into a man.

 

     Room (Unrated) Psychological drama about a middle-aged mother (Cyndi

Williams) whose excruciating migraine headaches give her visions which cause her to quit her minimum wage job at a Bingo parlor, and to fly from Houston to NYC where she ends up butt naked in a cheap motel and still in emotional crisis.

 

     Strangers with Candy (R for sex, expletives and drug use) screen adaptation of the short-lived Comedy Central TV-series of the same name. Amy Sedaris, Stephen Colbert and seven other original cast members reprise their roles in this comedy about a 46 year-old, recently-paroled ex-junkie who decides to start her life over by returning to high school. With cameos by Philip Seymour Hoffman, Matthew Broderick, Ian Holm, Allison Janney and Sarah Jessica Parker.

 

     Who Killed the Electric Car? (PG for mild epithets) Documentary examines the role of the American auto industry in the elimination of the pollution-free, electric automobile in order to ensure the country’s continued dependence on cars with internal combustion engine which consume copious quantities of gasoline.
