CONCERT CALENDAR: Ja Rule in Africa; J.B. in Morocco; Kanye has Vertigo; Lyfe in N.O.; Remy in Jamaica.(July 25, 2006)
*Ja Rule will touch down in Nairobi, Kenya Friday (7/28) to headline a concert at the Carnivore grounds in conjunction with the Celtel Kenya Win a Porsche World Cup promotion. On Sunday in Dar es Salam, Tanzania, the rapper will perform alongside his ride-or-die chick Ashanti at a separate gig sponsored by radio station Clouds FM. Celtel, which launched mobile operations in Africa in 1998, has networks across 15 African countries and covers more than a third of the population of Africa. *Godfather of Soul James Brown will get on the good foot for the King of Morocco next month in a private concert for his birthday. Mohammed VI will fly out the hardest working man in showbiz to perform at an Aug. 21 party to celebrate the big day. *U2 has set Nov. 7 as the start of their 10 rescheduled concert dates for the Vertigo '06 Tour, which is to feature Kanye West as the opening act in New Zealand and Australia. More than five months ago, the rock band postponed the outing due to an undisclosed illness of a family member. The concluding Dec. 9 date in Honolulu will feature Pearl Jam opening alongside Rocko and the Devils — the band led by U2's stage manager, Rocko Reedy. *Lyfe Jennings will headline a New Orleans benefit concert at the city's Howlin' Wolf club on Friday as part of the "Bring 'Em Back" series. Proceeds are to benefit Habitat for Humanity's rebuilding efforts in the city following Hurricane Katrina. Robin Thicke, Urban Mystic and Cheri Dennis are also scheduled to perform. *Remy Ma and dancehall DJ Bounty Killer joins the lineup for Jamaica's Saddle to the East 2006 on Aug. 26. The concert is a benefit for Upliftment Jamaica, a nonprofit that provides health, education and social services for the country's impoverished parishes.
