BLACK ENTERPRISE LISTS BEST SMALL BUSINESSES: Plus, magazine launches 2nd ‘Own Your First Home Contest.’
*"Making Their Mark," the cover story of Black Enterprise’s new August 2006 issue, highlights the Black Enterprise Small Business Award winners, a new crop of entrepreneurs poised to join the business elite and follow in their legendary footsteps.
This year's award recipients are: Warm Spirit, a $15 million beauty and wellness company; Life-Enhancing Dentistry, a revolutionary neuromuscular dentistry practice; AllHipHop.com, a leading hip-hop news Web site; and Drive Safe, a company run by an 18-year-old Teenpreneur who makes driver notification signs.
The winners were honored at the 11th annual Black Enterprise Entrepreneurs Conference in May.
Elsewhere in the August issue are the winners of the first annual Black Enterprise Own Your First Home Contest in 2005. After getting their finances in order, decreasing their credit card debt, and saving money, James and Kimberly Papillion were able to purchase a newly-constructed home in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. Their prize of $10,000 was used toward the down payment on their home.
In "Achieve Your Dream of Homeownership," BE officially kicks off the contest's second year. The goal of the contest is to encourage African Americans to get on the path to homeownership, the cornerstone of financial prosperity.
