BARING THE CROSS IN HOLLYWOOD: Arts and Entertainment ministry gives resources, support to help Christian entertainers succeed(August 7, 2006)
A Christian entertainer can often feel isolated in Hollywood where “image is everything,” and “making it” could mean spiritual detour. But there are successful Believers in the entertainment industry who survive in a world of glitz, glamour and money and remain yoked to their Faith in the process.
Recognizing the challenge of staying grounded in the business, Hollywood Connect is a ministry that promotes Christian artists and entertainers having an impact the culture in Hollywood and makes it possible for Christians them to interact and while providing resources to help ensure their success both personally and professionally. Michele Suh, its director and founder observes that all too often, Christians in Hollywood focus solely on their career -- to their own detriment. "So few take the time to do an inventory of who they really are and what they have to offer, which affects everything they do, the choices they make, and eventually, whether or not they'll make it out here," Suh says. Hollywood Connect is offering a 10-week program designed to prepare, equip, and train them for a life of success in the industry. "Hollywood Connect's 360° Training Program: Comprehensive Training for Success in Hollywood." It will take place from September 8-November 17, with applications due by August 15. "We believe that to have lasting success in this industry, one needs to address all areas of his or life to flourish," she says. Their program structure is accommodating to that end. The training program features weekly seminars and meetings with professional coaches and therapists, and promises to help participants in the areas of networking, leadership skills, overcoming personal roadblocks, and developing a five-year comprehensive plan for a career in Hollywood. Also upcoming is “The Sequel: This Time It's Personal!” It will take place September 16 from 10:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m. with registration being at 9:45 a.m. at the Hollywood Presbyterian Church (Mears) 1760 N. Gower St., Hollywood, CA, 90028. It is FREE (Coffee, juice and Continental Breakfast will be provided). The Hollywood Connect website has a variety of useful information including links to jobs ad classifieds.
