GRAVESTONE ERECTED FOR RICK JAMES: Black granite marker set up at cemetery in Buffalo hometown.(August 8, 2006)
*A gravestone was erected for late funk legend Rick James at his burial place in Buffalo, New York just in time for the second anniversary of his death on Sunday (Aug. 6). According to the Buffalo News, the cover photo from his 1981 album “Street Songs” appears as an etching on the headstone, a black granite monument located in Forest Lawn Cemetery. The picture shows him in a relaxed pose, wearing his trademark tight leather pants, a jacket and guitar. Weighing two tons, the monument stands 4 feet, 9 inches high and has a 4 foot wide base. James’ ashes are interred at the site. Born James Ambrose Johnson Jr., the musician died in his sleep on Aug. 6, 2004 at the age of 54. His family had initially attributed the death to natural causes, despite the nine different drugs that were found in his system during an autopsy. After concluding that none of the drugs were found to be at life-threatening levels, the Los Angeles County Coroner ruled his death was accidental. Speak Out
