PARADE.COM POLLS AMERICA ON POP CULTURE: Oprah, Star Jones, Halle Berry show up in various categories.(August 10, 2006)
*It’s that time of year again – when Parade.com lists the results of its annual Pop Culture Poll featuring such categories as hottest sex symbols, favorite celeb transformation and weirdest baby name. Star Jones Reynolds and her battle with “The View” tops the list of “most intriguing rivalries” with 30 percent of the vote. Trailing close behind are The DaVinci Code vs. the Catholic Church (23%), Heather Locklear vs. Denise Richards (20%), Tom Cruise vs. Brooke Shields (11%) and Tori Spelling vs. her mom, Candy Spelling (8%). Oprah Winfrey was the celebrity that Americans would most want to receive a party invitation from. She earned 43% of the vote to beat President Bush (15%), Paris Hilton (12%), Donald Trump (9%), Martha Stewart (7%), and P. Diddy (6%). Halle Berry, who turns 40 on Monday, placed fourth on a list of celebs who were the “hottest in his or her prime” following top vote-getters Marilyn Monroe (40%), Sofia Loren (21%) and Elizabeth Taylor (14%). Placing fifth and sixth were Angelina Jolie (8%) and Pam Anderson (4%). Ruben Studdard and Fantasia came in fourth (6%) and fifth (5%) respectively as the nation’s favorite “American Idol” winner. Kelly Clarkson came in first at 38%, followed by Carrie Underwood (18%) and Taylor Hicks (15%). As for favorite celebrity transformation: Janet Jackson’s recent weight loss placed second (25%) behind Clay Aiken’s hairdo shift from spiky to shag (33%). Rounding out the top five were Ashlee Simpson's new nose (16%), Kevin Federline’s dreds to hip-hop chic look (8%) and Britney Spears’ swing from blonde to brunette (6%). Parade.com's Pop Culture Poll was conducted online in July 2006 among nearly 10,000 Americans. Full survey results were made available yesterday (8/09) on Parade.com. Speak Out
