OPRAH GEARS UP FOR NEW SEASON ON TV AND RADIO: Gay governor among first guests; debt diet’s Chatzey joins XM channel.(September 11, 2006)
*One of Oprah Winfrey’s first guests upon her return next week will be the nation's first openly gay governor, New Jersey's James McGreevey. The interview, according to AP, will mark McGreevey's first in-depth remarks since the fallout surrounding his Aug. 12, 2004 announcement on national television that he is gay and would resign as governor. His political troubles arose after he put an alleged lover on the state payroll as a homeland security adviser but the man could not get the necessary security clearance because he was an Israeli citizen. The show will be broadcast Sept. 19, the day McGreevey's political memoir, "The Confession," hits bookstores. Meanwhile, Oprah’s new season begins Sept. 18, with Janet Jackson among the interviews that have already been filmed to air in the first week. On Sept. 25, XM Satellite Radio is scheduled to premiere her new channel, “Oprah & Friends.” Jean Chatzky, financial editor for NBC's "Today" show and columnist for the New York Daily News, has just been hired to host her own financial-themed program on the channel. Featured on "The Oprah Winfrey Show" last season as part of the "debt diet," Chatzky joins Oprah’s other “friends” Bob Greene, Mehmet Oz, Robin Smith, Marianne Williamson, Nate Berkus and Gayle King in presenting a broad range of programming on such topics as nutrition, fitness, self-improvement, finance, home and current events.
