*Actor Anthony Mackie, last seen in the films “Half Nelson” and “Crossover,” has been cast as Olympic track-and-field icon Jesse Owens in an upcoming biopic to begin shooting next summer, reports Variety.

The as-yet-untitled film will be penned by “Ray” screenwriter James L. White, and produced by Mike Jefferies and Matt Barrelle for Milkshake Films, the company behind the soccer trilogy "Goal!"

The movie will follow Owens as he rose to international stardom at the 1936 Berlin Olympics, where Adolf Hitler watched him win four gold medals. The film is scheduled for release in summer 2008.

Mackie will next be seen in the Warner Bros. drama “We Are Marshall,” which tells the true story of Marshall University’s “Thundering Herd” before and after 75 members of the team and coaching staff were killed in a plane crash in 1970.
