RHIMES’ ‘ANATOMY’ HEADED FOR SYNDICATION: Plus, show’s star engaged to longtime boyfriend.(November 14, 2006)
*On the heels of its cable syndication deal with Lifetime, the hit ABC medical drama “Grey’s Anatomy” will begin airing in weekend broadcast syndication beginning in the fall of 2009. According to the Hollywood Reporter, Buena Vista Television has so far cleared the Shonda Rhimes-created series on stations in 14 of the top 15 markets, including the ABC owned-and-operated stations WABC New York, KABC Los Angeles, WLS Chicago, WPVI Philadelphia, KGO San Francisco and KTRK Houston; Fox O&Os WFXT Boston and WTTG Washington; Cox's ABC affiliate WSB Atlanta; and Scripps' ABC affiliate WXYZ Detroit. The three-year deals include double runs in specific time periods. BVT in July struck a deal with Lifetime for cable rerun rights, with the network paying what is believed to be $1.2 million per episode. Lifetime's deal allows it to begin airing reruns in fall 2009. Meanwhile, the show’s star, Ellen Pompeo, became engaged last week to her boyfriend, 38-year-old record producer Chris Ivery. He reportedly waited until the two had breakfast before popping the question Friday, which happened to be Pompeo’s 37th birthday. The two Boston natives have been dating for three-years, but no wedding date has been set, her publicist Jennifer Allen told the Associated Press. Speak Out
