COSBY DENIES RAPPER’S USE OF ‘FAT AL’ NAME: Entertainer says MC’s choice of tags is too close to his famous cartoon character.(November 16, 2006)
*Nineteen-year-old Cleveland rapper Aljaray Gaston wanted to be known in the music world as Fat Al, but Bill Cosby has put a legal stop to that, citing its close similarity to his cartoon creation, Fat Albert. "I guess he doesn't like rappers," Gaston told Reuters of Cosby’s legal team denying his use of the name. "I'm just trying to come up and Bill Cosby was hating. I know one thing, I won't be buying any more Jell-O pudding." Gaston has instead chosen the rap name Al Fatz for his debut album, which will feature Akon and Lil’ Wayne among guest artists and will be released on Atlantic Records. The budding artist also has a song on the Madden 2007 video game soundtrack and is recording the theme for Electronic Arts' NBA Street Homecourt game. He's also recording a song for a Sprite advertising campaign featuring basketball star LeBron James.
