FILM/TV BITS: Emmitt Smith wins dance competition; Chappelle’s no-show; Richie ready to get ‘Simple’; UrbanFilmClub.com launches.(November 16, 2006)
*Former Dallas Cowboys running back Emmitt Smith took home the crown on “Dancing with the Stars” last night, beating out Mario Lopez for the top spot. Smith’s smooth style and smile eventually won over both the judges and the audience, though the race was tight until the very end. “It is awesome, it is awesome,” Smith said, holding the disco ball prize like it was the Vince Lombardi Trophy. “We’ve come a long way, we really have.” *Dave Chappelle’s sudden exit from HBO’s Comedy Fest in Las Vegas has been blamed on “contractual issues,” according to his rep in New York Post’s Page Six. "Dave will continue to tour and entertain his fans," the spokesperson added. Meanwhile, HBO is not happy with the comedian’s decision to cancel without notice. A rep for the cable channel told the Post: "We are bummed, the fans are bummed, and the festival is bummed." *Nicole Richie told producers of "The Simple Life" that she’s ready to get back to work now that her stint at a facility for eating disorders has ended, reports the New York Daily News. Production on the E! Entertainment series had to shut down temporarily after Richie entered treatment last month. "We don't have a production date," a spokesman for the show said. "Nicole has informed us she's ready to work, and we're looking at a calendar to see what works best for all." As previously reported, the two will spend the new season working as camp counselors. In related news, Richie is denying a New York Post story this week that she is the “unnamed Hollywood starlet” who underwent gastric bypass surgery and then had the procedure reversed. Her rep tells People: "It is not Nicole. There are a ton of 'Hollywood starlets'." *UrbanFilmClub.com – a partnership between Clanagan Media Group, LLC, and leading entertainment marketing company, BrandImageryGroup – will deliver the best and most complete offering of urban entertainment-content direct to homes, phones, offices, mailboxes and computers of consumers across the country.
