*“Seinfeld” veteran Michael Richards appeared on CBS’ “Late Show with David Letterman” to apologize for his explosion of racism toward African American hecklers Friday night at West Hollywood’s Laugh Factory.

Jerry Seinfeld, who was booked as a guest on Monday night’s “Letterman” before the Richards incident occurred, asked that the host make time for his friend and former “Seinfeld” co-star to address the situation via satellite from Los Angeles. (See video below.)

"I am not a racist. That is what is so insane about this. …I lost my temper on stage," Richards said. "I was at the comedy club trying to do my act and I got heckled and I took it badly and went into a rage. For me to be at a comedy club and flip out and say this crap, you know, I am deeply, deeply sorry."

"He deserves a chance to apologize, and that's all he wanted, and I thank you for having him on," Seinfeld told Letterman after Richards spoke.
