THE BROTHERS OF ALPHA PHI ALPHA 'STOMP' IN HONOR OF DR. KING AT ANNUAL CELEBRATION IN ORANGE COUNTY- RadioScope/EUR's LaRita Shelby is the host.(January 16, 2007)
The Eighth Annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Gospel Concert was held on Sunday, January 14th at the Irvine Barclay Theatre on the campus of UC Irvine.
RadioScope/EUR's LaRita Shelby was the emcee of the event which drew an audience of 750, while 100 hopefull attendants were turned away once the venue reached it's capacity. The Program Chairman was Ron Guyer who executed the event along with Rev. & Mrs. Mark Whitlock of the Christ Our Redeemer Redevelopment Corporation & AME Church, The Black Chamber of Commerce, 100 Black Men, 100 Black Women, The Ministerial Association and The Links; all represented from their respective Orange County Chapters. Highlights of the evening included music performances by churches from the Santa Ana area as well as The Faithful Central Bible Church and recording artist Ricky Grundy. LA radio station KLJH Broadcast live from the event and MLK Scholarship recipients Laura Wright (Avid Exposure PR) and James Grant shared remarks. Honors were also given Frank Quvedo (Man of the Year) and Kathryn Mccullough & Kathleen Bowman (tied for Woman of the Year).
Step show presentation at the event (Photo by Eugene Garcia: The Orange County Register) The MLK celebration reached it's peak with a step presentation by the women of Alpha Kappa Alpha and the brothers of Alpha Phi Alpha, the fraternity of the late Dr. King.
