J.LO SETS A DATE FOR SPANISH ALBUM: Plus, singer reveals her daddy’s a Scientologist.
*Jennifer Lopez’s friendship with Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes may continue to fuel rumors that she is close to becoming a Scientologist, but the singer-actress has finally confirmed details regarding another aspect of her life.
Billboard.com is reporting that her first-ever Spanish-language album, "Como Ama Una Mujer" ("How a Woman Loves"), will be released on April 3 by Epic and worked in conjunction with Sony BMG Latin for the U.S. Latin marketplace and Latin America.
The release also comes with a planned five-part miniseries for Univision TV based on a on a treatment by Lopez, which in turn is based on the content of the album. Lopez will not star in the series, but music from the album will appear throughout the program and she will perform a track at the end of each episode.
"Emotionally speaking, to me this album is more me than any other album," she tells Billboard.
The celebrity, however, has not abandoned the urban sound that helped her transition from film to music. She’s planning to release such an album – all English-language – before year's end.
"I've matured as a singer," she says. "Marc gave me confidence in the studio as well. When someone believes in you so much, you don't want to let them down. And it's also the material. I think this material lent itself to my voice. And it actually made me approach my new English album in a different way. I have a different standard now."
Meanwhile, J.Lo has also confirmed that her father is a Scientologist, and although she says she remains firm in her religion, she is troubled by the negative perception surrounding it.
"I, myself, am Catholic. But it's just sad that people would look at it (Scientology) in that way,” Lopez said during an interview with South Florida’s NBC news affiliate. “My dad has been a Scientologist for 20 years. It's weird people want to paint it in a negative way."
